Job Description

Oversee the daily operations of the Jamul Tribal Gaming Commission's Compliance Department with a strong focus on leadership and effective communication among all team members. Ensure the department consistently meets established standards and operates in full compliance with all relevant Tribal, Federal, State, and local rules and regulations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the Compliance Department's staff, ensuring all performance standards are met and duties are appropriately delegated.
  • Foster a productive and team-oriented environment to achieve results.
  • Ensure all compliance functions are completed accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Conduct audits, review procedures, and test equipment/games for compliance with all Tribal, Federal, State rules and regulations, as well as internal controls and policies.
  • Conduct investigations as needed and report findings to the Executive Director.
  • Adhere to all applicable rules and regulations.
  • Provide regular reports to the Executive Director on the Compliance Department's performance.
  • Collaborate with external agencies and departments as required.
  • Maintain close and professional working relationships with the casino management team, participating in management meetings as needed.
  • Hold regular meetings with the Executive Director.
  • Develop and manage the Compliance Department's budget.
  • Ensure effective communication and implementation of regulatory changes at all necessary levels.
  • Investigate patron disputes or complaints and process them according to approved regulations.
  • Recommend changes to the Executive Director for the Internal Controls to ensure effectiveness and compliance.
  • Advise the Executive Director on approvals or denials of casino marketing proposals, promotions, or events requiring regulatory approval.
  • Coordinate Class III gaming deliveries and setup with casino management, ensuring compliance.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Exhibit outstanding leadership and supervisory skills, maintaining a consistently positive attitude.
  • Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug test and a background check as stringent as that required for a key gaming license.
  • Possess exceptional organizational skills and the ability to meet deadlines consistently.
  • Demonstrate strong communication skills, both in writing and verbally.
  • Have a solid understanding of tribal gaming and gaming commission functions, with a focus on regulatory compliance and investigations.
  • Be detail-oriented with excellent time management abilities.
  • Capable of interpreting laws, regulations, and policies, as well as formulating and developing procedures to ensure compliance.
  • Show flexibility to work beyond traditional business hours, including weekends and holidays, as the casino and gaming commission operate 24/7.

Education/Experience:

Applicant must possess a Bachelor’s degree from a four-year accredited college or university; or five years of regulatory, auditing, surveillance, compliance or investigative experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Applicant must also possess at least four years of management experience. Experience in Tribal Gaming preferred.
