The Children's Home of Pittsburgh is seeking a Full-Time Early Childhood Education Teacher for Child's Way, our daycare center for medically fragile children. Child's Way operates from 6:30 am - 5:30 pm and is closed on weekends and holidays. This position works 40 hours per week, with the option of either five-8hr shifts or four-10hr shifts per week.


Under the supervision of the Child's Way Education Program Supervisor, the Teacher is responsible for developing and implementing an ongoing program of activities that promote the social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development of each child enrolled in accordance with DHS, Head Start, and Keystone Stars Standards. Teachers will work cooperatively with nurses, therapists, and Early Intervention professionals to provide a safe, healthy, and developmentally appropriate learning experience.

Requirements:

MINIMUM SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Must have attained one of the following qualification levels:
    • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education or the human services field.
    • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, including 30 credit hours in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education or the human services field and one year experience with children.
    • An associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education, or the human services field and two years of experience with children.
    • An associate’s degree from an accredited college or university, including 30 credit hours in early childhood education, child development, special education, or the human services field and three years of experience with children.
    • A high school diploma or a general educational development certificate and 30 credit hours from an accredited college or university in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education or the human services field.
    • A high school diploma or a general educational development certificate, including 600 or more hours of secondary training described in § 3270.31(c) (relating to age and training).
    • A high school diploma or a general educational development certificate, 15 credit hours from an accredited college or university in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education or the human services field and 1 year of experience with children.
    • A high school diploma or a general education development certificate and completion of a post-secondary training curriculum described in § 3270.31(c).
    • A high school diploma or a general educational development certificate and 2 years experience with children.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and communicate appropriately.
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively and positively communicate and cooperate with children, family members, physicians, other staff, and visitors.
  • Emotional and mental ability to perform effectively and efficiently under stressful and emergency situations.
  • Cognitive ability to utilize basic knowledge of growth and development in interactions with children and families.
  • Act 33 and 34 clearances, FBI Background check, and NSOR.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES PREFERRED:

  • Three to five years of experience working with children.
  • Prior experience working with children in both childcare and health care.

FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Functions within patient care, outdoors, facility, and administrative environments.
  • Must be able to successfully obtain Pediatric First Aid and CPR Certification.
  • Must be able to push, pull, lift, and carry up to 20-70 pounds and 70-100+ pounds as required with assistance.
  • Physical ability necessary for prolonged periods of standing, walking, lifting, and carrying patients, supplies, and equipment.
  • Physical ability to get down on the floor with the children and get back up again.
  • OSHA training and knowledge
