Job Description



I. Organizational Overview

Philadelphia Youth Basketball, Inc. (PYB) was officially launched in June, 2015, with a mission to create transformative opportunities for thousands of young people, especially those from under-resourced families and communities, to reach their full potential as students, athletes, and positive leaders.  A diverse and impassioned group of individuals, including leaders from the grass-roots to the tree-tops, have been working diligently to execute upon this mission by building an impactful program, a robust and sustainable organization, and ultimately a state-of-the-art youth basketball and education center to enable us to provide empowering experiences to many more children, youth, and families.

II. Primary Scope of Duties

Reporting to the Director of Older Youth Programming, the Financial Empowerment Program Manager is responsible for the coordination and implementation of PYB’s Financial Empowerment Programming at the Sixth Man Center and other Community Partnership Program locations. PYB’s financial empowerment programming objectives include but not limited to financial literacy, youth entrepreneurship, career planning, and wealth building. 


The ideal candidate will have a passion for empowering young individuals with essential financial skills and knowledge. In this role, you will be responsible for developing and implementing financial education programs for youth, fostering financial literacy, providing guidance on building strong financial habits, and aligning with career readiness program goals.  This role will sit on the Program team and work collaboratively with Program leads to effectively implement and infuse financial empowerment across our program suite (serving early, middle, and older youth pathways). This role will also build upon and facilitate PYB’s Magic Academy, Youth Entrepreneurship Program along with the Work-Based Learning model which sit primarily in PYB’s older youth pathway. This role will also work with external partners to coordinate financial empowerment initiatives for youth and families at PYB’s Sixth Man Center. 


Lastly, financial empowerment is one of the core operational components of the Sixth Man Center’s operations. This role will also be integral in working alongside our fund development team to interface with current and prospective supporters of this financial empowerment programming alongside our fund development team to interface with current and prospective supporters of this financial empowerment programming


The primary responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to the following:


  • Program Development:
    • Design and develop comprehensive financial literacy programs tailored to the needs of youth participants across ages 6-19
    • Create engaging and interactive workshops, seminars, and resources to promote financial literacy for youth participants
    • Work closely with Universal Design Manager and Program leads to align financial literacy curriculum with other off-court content objectives
    • Work collaboratively with the Program leaders to implement a financial literacy curriculum within our Academy programming and Community Partnership programming
    • Expand and refine PYB’s Magic Academy, Youth Entrepreneurship Program
  • Facilitation and Training:
    • Facilitate PYB’s Magic Academy, Youth Entrepreneurship Program
    • Deliver financial literacy sessions to youth groups, ensuring content is age-appropriate and engaging
    • Work collaboratively with the Program leaders to schedule financial literacy sessions within our Academy programming and Community Partnership programming. 
    • Work in partnership with coach-mentors on delivery of financial literacy sessions
  • Community Engagement:
    • Work in partnership with our Financial Empowerment co-located partner to create financial empowerment events for PYB’s community
    • Coordinate with external partners to build and plan partnership engagements, sector convenings, and resources
    • Conduct outreach activities to raise awareness about the importance of financial literacy
  • Resource Management:
    • Manage and maintain resources, materials, and tools necessary for financial literacy programs
    • Stay informed about the latest financial trends, resources, and technologies relevant to youth financial empowerment
    • Help to mobilize employee engagement opportunities from the financial services community to deliver various financial literacy content
  • Individualized Support:
    • Work closely with youth participants to understand their financial goals, challenges, and aspirations (specifically with older youth programs)
    • Provide personalized guidance on budgeting, saving, investing, and other financial topics
  • Monitoring and Evaluation:
    • Work in collaboration with our Impact and Evaluation Manager to establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the impact and effectiveness of financial literacy programs.
    • Collect and analyze data to evaluate program outcomes and make recommendations for improvement.


III. Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Dispositions

  • Background in Finance, Business, Education, or a related field 
  • Bachelor’s degree or Master's degree is a plus
  • Proven experience in financial education, counseling, or related fields
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage and connect with youth 
  • Demonstrated interest in sports-based youth development and social impact
  • Strong organizational and project management skills
  • Knowledge of financial management tools, resources, and technologies
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Passion for promoting financial literacy and empowering youth to make informed financial decisions.
  • Prideful attention to detail, a robust work ethic and commitment to individual and organizational excellence
  • A deep curiosity and love of learning, and a growth mindset for personal and organizational development
  • Solutions-oriented and flexible – comfortable navigating unexpected opportunities or challenges and able to stay focused on long-term outcomes
  • Capable of working evenings/weekends when needed for program or event coverage
  • Computer literacy and well-developed technology skills
  • Flexible work style with the ability to work in an open office environment


IV.  Compensation and Perks 


This position will have a salary range of $55,000 - $60,000 commensurate with experience.
