Job Description
VP of Polymer Science
Who We Are:
Arieca, a venture capital funded spin-out of Carnegie Mellon University, is pushing the boundaries of material functionalities in the most demanding applications. Our proprietary liquid metal embedded elastomer (LMEE) technologies allow for unprecedented performances in applications across semiconductor, automotive, and healthcare industries. Our TIMbber®  product line targets thermal interface material (TIM) challenges in advanced semiconductor packages and is being qualified by leading semiconductor manufacturing and assembly companies.

What We Need:
As we enter a period of rapid growth commercializing our products, we need experienced and talented polymer scientists and chemists that are passionate and skilled and are committed to both technical rigor and customer success. A good fit will demonstrate the following capabilities:
  • Ability to solve complex problems, and clearly communicate solutions
  • Solid foundation in polymer science and chemistry
  • Track record of formulating polysiloxane-based products and bringing them to market
  • Constantly looking for opportunities to improve products and exceed the status quo
  • Willingness to perform tasks that make a team more effective

Position Description:
Arieca is looking for a senior level polymer scientist to lead our polymer science team for successful market introduction of our liquid metal based thermal interface materials. Direct and hands on experience in designing polymer systems in microelectronics application is a necessity to be successful in this role. Responsibilities include formulation of curable and non-curable polysiloxane-based liquid metal composites. Formulations are targeted to withstand stringent reliability testing with minimal degradation in performance. Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills are required, as you will be leading a young and talented team of polymer scientists with PhDs in polymer science and chemistry. You as the leader of the polymer science team need to define targets based on customer inputs, define the product roadmap and efficiently execute on polymer formulation and data collection while being cognisant of the constraints of a startup. You are expected to have effective engagement with customers and ecosystem partners to instill confidence in Arieca’s product development roadmap.
You will be working with a team of highly motivated and ambitious individuals with a diverse background of exceptional scientific, entrepreneurial, and industrial experiences. This position offers competitive salary and benefits, including healthcare, flexible PTO, stock options, and 401(k) (with employer matching).

Key Requirements:
  • Masters or PhD degree in Polymer Science/Engineering, Chemistry, Material Science, or equivalent degrees.
  • At least 15 years of experience in formulation of a variety of polymer systems (including polysiloxanes) in commercial products.
  • Has a molecular understanding of polymer structure and additives to improve product design
  • Experience using characterization equipment, including TGA, DSC, Rheology, Mechanical Testing, etc, coupled with understanding of instrumentation functioning.
  • Ability to independently analyze data and effectively communicate findings to technical and nontechnical audiences.
  • Previous development experience in polymers for semiconductor packaging is a bonus.
  • Background in polymer or emulsion rheology is a bonus.
