Job Description/Summary

The Research Specialist will work alongside faculty, scientists, and graduate students to conduct research projects, maintain a safe research environment, and summarize research findings.

The Research Specialist will perform essential tasks for multiple funded studies in a dynamic, team-oriented lab under the supervision of the principal investigator and Director.

Duties:

• Performs basic molecular biology methods, including RNA isolation, RTPCR, RNAseq analysis, western blotting, cell culture, microbial assays, and ELISAs.

• Analyze data and draft research progress reports including summarizing test results of assigned projects.

• Assist with data collection and generation of figures for grants, reports, publications and presentations.

• Assist in analysis and reporting for scientific publications and progress reports.

• Assists in the training of new employees and students.

• Assists with lab equipment maintenance and service.

• Assists with lab inventory.

• Assists with lab ordering.

Experience Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in microbiology, molecular biology or related field AND one-year related research experience; OR, 2+ years research experience appropriate to the area of assignment; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
  • Record of related research experience appropriate to rank;
  • Knowledge and experience related to working with cell culture systems

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or equivalent degree by the time of appointment in molecular biology, microbiology, or related field;
  • Experience with RNAseq, RTPCR and genomic expression analysis
  • Experience with botanical research
  • Highly desirable qualifications include experience with molecular biology assays and evidence of being self-motivated, detail-oriented, responsible, team-compatible, and possessing excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
Education Requirements:

Minimum Education

  • Bachelor's degree in microbiology, molecular biology or related field AND one-year related research experience; OR, 2+ years research experience appropriate to the area of assignment; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
