Job Description

The Project Manager 1 role is the entry level for Project Management.  As a PM 1 you will be responsible for supporting a portfolio of Tooling and Equipment projects to build the world’s aircraft (airplanes, helicopters, rockets) for major aircraft OEM’s and their sub-tier suppliers. Your role will involve managing the design, build, and installation of Tooling and Equipment that may include mold tooling for fabricating composite parts, assembly jigs & fixtures, work platforms, automation (such as auto drill / rivet machines), up to and including supporting portions of full assembly line design and build for the aircraft. You will work closely with senior project managers to ensure that projects are completed on time and within budget. You will also be responsible for supporting communications with stakeholders, managing project risks, and ensuring that project documentation is up-to-date and accurate.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Review blueprints for tool assembly sequence, details and assemblies.
  • Full laser tracking abilities using FARO trackers and Verisurf
  • Design and build tooling aids
  • Fix out of tolerance tools or lead the effort
  • Set-up and run lathes, milling and grinding machines to produce details and assemblies in accordance with blueprint tolerances and specifications
  • Check and inspect all details, assemblies and finished product for conformance to blueprint dimensions
  • Build and assemble tooling components including drill bars, edge bars, and lifting and clamping details.
  • Identify molds and tools per customer blueprint, tool and purchase order requirements using tags, engraving machines, stencils and paintingPlumb and vacuum systems - verify integrity through pressure testing and leak checking
  • Drill clearance holes – drill and tap holes, locate and drill precision holes
  • Participate and take responsibility for 6S
  • Work with team to perform all tool making and manufacturing tasks with minimum supervision
  • Communicate with supervisors, program managers, and engineers
  • Any additional duties as reasonably assigned by management

REQUIRED SKILLS, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE


Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful job performance will be considered. Typical qualifications would be:
3+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment
Blueprint interpretation including GD&T and shop math (decimals, basic trig, toelrances)
Knowledge of the Metric System
Knowledge of manufacturing processes including machining, fastening, metrology
Knowledge of material types and material processes
Manual machining experience (conventional mills, lathes, surface grinders)
Laser tracking experience (ability to align, collect data, best fit, set details, create reports)
This position must meet Export Control Compliance requirements, therefore a "US Person" as defined by 22.C.F.R. is required

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Accredited journeyman background
Ability to use manual inspection equipment and inspection techniques
Ability to use Forklift and crane
Ability to read and interpret blue prints
Ability to work with management team to help drive performance of location
Ability to take direction, learn, and apply knowledge acquired
Knowledge of shop math including geometry and trigonometry 

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

Most travel is primarily local during the business day. Some projects may require travel out of the area and overnight stays.

May be required to work weekends to meet department and business demands
Work with safe manufacturing processes and understand that eyewear is mandatory in the manufacturing area.
Knows that safety shoes are recommended in the manufacturing area

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Must be able to frequently walk and stand for short periods of time.
Must be able to lift and move up to 10lbs, occasionally lift and move objects up to 35lbs.
Must be able to see, talk, hear, touch, feel and reach with hands and arms.
