This opening is within the holding company, primarily performing asset management, actuarial, accounting, and other oversight functions on behalf of our insurers and third-party clients. Our primary lines of business include traditional fixed and equity-indexed annuities, whole life insurance, Medicare supplement, and hospital indemnity products.
About The Role
We have an immediate opening for a self-motivated, resourceful, and well-organized candidate to join us as Manager of Statutory Reporting. The Manager of Statutory Reporting will contribute significantly to our insurance companies quarterly and annual financial statement filings (blue books) by ensuring accuracy and compliance with all statutory rules and guidelines. This role involves monitoring NAIC communications, directing the implementation of required changes to statutory reporting, and building the statutory reporting team to serve our reporting needs. While serving in a management role, the right candidate will also be hands-on in creating and supporting technical processes when necessary.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
- Assist with the preparation of monthly management reports and quarterly/annual statutory financial statements.
- Answer financial/accounting questions from executive leadership, auditors, regulators, and others by researching transactions, interpreting data, and demonstrating an understanding of the company's financial performance.
- Assist with interim and year-end audits.
- Manage state filing process: understand each licensed states requirements, manage state-by-state requirement checklist, and ensure timely remittance.
- Assist in the timely preparation of statutory filings, including the quarterly/annual statements (blue books) and additional compliance requirements.
- Record reserves monthly.
- Assist with reviewing accounting journal entries.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED:
- Bachelors degree in accounting or related field with 5+ years of relevant work experience; or any combination of education, professional training, or work experience demonstrating the ability to perform the job.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel.
- Proficiency with Life/Health annual statement preparation software (e.g. Wings).
- Understanding of statutory and GAAP accounting.
- Strong mathematical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent time management skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to coordinate and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to communicate complex concepts verbally and in writing to diverse audiences.
- Ability to build relationships with team members across the organization.
- Comfort with a steep learning curve and strong motivation to work in a dynamic, team-oriented environment with minimal supervision.
