FULL-TIME SCHEDULE: Days Vary 8a - 5p

DESCRIPTION
This position involves the responsible care and management of a diverse range of animal species within our zoo. The Zoo Keeper will play a pivotal role in ensuring the well-being, health, and comfort of our animals while maintaining their habitats to the highest standards.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's degree in Zoology, Biology, Animal Sciences, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• One year of experience in animal care at an AZA or equivalent facility, gained through employment, internships, or volunteer experience is preferred.
• Passion for wildlife conservation and animal welfare.
• Valid Texas Driver's License

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

• Knowledge of animal behavior, nutrition, and health.
• Physical fitness and ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Ability to provide exceptional customer service to internal and external customers.

MAJOR DUTIES

• Provide daily care for animals including feeding, cleaning, and monitoring health.
• Maintain and clean animal enclosures, ensuring they meet safety and hygiene standards.
• Create and implement enrichment programs to stimulate natural behaviors.
• Collaborate with veterinarians for health assessments and treatments.
• Participate in animal behavioral observations and record-keeping.
• Educate visitors about the animals, conservation efforts, and wildlife welfare.
• Ensure the Zoo complies with all federal, state, and other applicable laws, statutes, and regulations governing the collection, exhibition, and care of wild and/or exotic animals (USDA, TPWD, AZA, etc.).
• Respond to emergency calls after normal operating hours.
• Perform various other duties as assigned.
