Job Description

SUMMARY: The Traditional Healing Coordinator is responsible for the implementation and evaluation of the Traditional Healing grant activities and to support the development of a sustainable cultural healing program at NACC. Key activities include planning cultural trainings and activities within the urban Native American (NA) community. Building collaboration within and across NACC departments, as well as external programs, agencies, and key stakeholders that are serving the NA community. This position will work closely with Traditional Healing Manager, Elder in Residence/Spiritual Care Providers, Grant Manager, Operations, and Elder Council to successfully implement cultural healing programming.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Identify and coordinate resources to support culturally appropriate programming.
  • Implore NA values and community needs to plan effective cultural healing activities.
  • Establish partnerships and agreements with cultural advisors and elders that offer ceremonies and trainings.
  • Develop strategies and infrastructure to deliver cultural services and activities virtually (if needed).
  • Engage NA community leaders and elder to foster participation in traditional healing activities.
  • Support with the development of a cultural framework and pathway to deliver cultural and traditional healing and culturally-affirming evaluation framework.
  • Work with traditional healing manager to expand healthcare workforce through expansion of Elder in Residence/Spiritual Care services.
  • Work collaboratively with community partners to support engagement in cultural activities.
  • Facilitate traditional activities and ceremonies that support cultural reclamation, identity formation, and family (re)unification, prevention and resilience. Services may include prevention, intervention and/or post-vention.
  • Oversee the Elder’s Council and quarterly engagement
  • Consult and engage Elders in Residence and Elder Council in all phases of the work plan.
  • Provide opportunities for cultural and traditional knowledge, skills, abilities and wisdom to be shared. Including monthly, bi-weekly or weekly groups.
  • Coordinate ceremonies such as shaken tent, sweat lodge, cedar and full moon ceremonies.
  • Develop resources such as brochures or booklets to ensure retention and transfer of knowledge.
  • Encourages clients and employees to take an active part in cultural community-based activities offered.
  • Purchase materials that are needed for cultural activities planned.
  • Market and publicize scheduled ceremonies and events that will be offered to patients and community members.
  • Conduct inventory and complete purchase orders for the department
  • Manage traditional healing workshop budgets and reporting
  • Group Facilitation- Planning and facilitation of group.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or one to three months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Certificates, licenses and registrations required:

  • Valid Minnesota driver’s license and insurance.
  • Obtain and maintain CPR, First Aid or other needed certifications when requested.
  • Computer skills required: Internet Software; Spreadsheet Software (Excel); Word Processing Software (Word); Electronic Mail Software (Outlook); Presentation software (PowerPoint); and general knowledge.
  • General understanding of community organizing
  • Leadership experience a plus.

Other skills required:

  • Two years of experience providing direct services.
  • Previous experience working with Native Americans or other marginalized communities.
  • Familiar with local resources for chemical, mental, and physical health.
  • Works well independently and on a team.
  • Excellent communication, customer service, and case management skills.
  • Knowledge of harm reduction
