Job Title: Fab Lab Program Manager

Department: YES

Reports To: Sr. Manager Fab Lab Operations

Supervises: Fab Lab Staff

FLSA Status: Exempt

Pay Grade: E5

Job Type: Regular, Full-Time

General Functions:

The Fab Lab Program Manager supports the Denelchin Lab operations and programs and is specifically responsible for managing Fab Lab related operations and youth programs. These duties include supervision of lab staff, year-round activities and events, ordering, tracking, and organizing of equipment and materials. The Fab Lab Program Manager provides direct support to the YES Department. This position also mentors and monitors for the safety of staff, participants, and volunteers. This position works within a multidisciplinary team to foster a partnership between select schools in the Anchorage School District, schools in rural communities, all CITC departments, and community agencies to connect youth, families, and the community with Fab Lab related activities and events. This position manages Fab Lab youth education-based grants.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Become familiar with the CITC Fab Lab, safety rules, and project plans.
  • Draft safety procedures, lab manuals, and adjust as needed.
  • Create and revise lab schedule/calendar daily.
  • Facilitate regular strategic planning sessions for the Fab Lab to support continuous growth and change in Fab Lab programs and activities.
  • Ensure assigned grants and programs meet all state, federal, and granting agency goals, objectives, policies, and regulations.
  • Complete program reports internally and externally as required.
  • Collect quarterly statistics and narratives from programs under supervision and ensure tracking procedures correlating to data needs and grant requirements.
  • Ensure all program reports internally and externally are submitted in a timely manner and ensure programs are prepared for internal and grant required audits.
  • Prepare reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data and information quarterly. This also includes documenting projects in the lab.
  • Track program and lab revenues and expenses and manage program budgets.
  • Assist in organizing activities that utilize the lab.
  • Train and supervise volunteers and interns.
  • Facilitate Fab Lab tours to visitors and record in database.
  • Assist in recruiting new staff and volunteers for the Fab Lab through tours, community contact, and outreach opportunities.
  • Develop relationships with community partners outside of CITC, with the goal of sharing Fab Lab technology.
  • Prepare invoices for internal and community agencies to utilize the Fab Lab, including follow up with CITC accounting and agency payment.
  • Recruit, interview, and hire team members.
  • Provide leadership by inspiring, guiding, and motivating teams.
  • Create an environment that fosters employee engagement and satisfaction.
  • Identify training needs, provide opportunities for learning and growth, and support the professional development of team members.
  • Evaluate performance of team members to include providing feedback, coaching, mentoring, and conducting performance appraisals.
  • Provide department oversight in Sr. Director’s absence.
  • Research STEM education needs and Fab Lab trends, and ensure staff receive skill upgrades and training regularly.
  • Maintain cooperative working relationship and ensure effective and timely written and oral communications with parents, staff, and other personnel.
  • Maintain operations by following CITC and partner policies and procedures.
  • Participate in program activities as needed.
  • Maintain confidentiality according to procedures and regulations.
  • Perform other duties as needed and/or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics), Human Services, Education, or related fields. Relevant experience may be substituted for the education requirement on a year- for- year basis.
  • Two (2) years supervisory experience, including budgeting, staff supervision and program/grant administration.
  • Two (2) years of experience working with Alaska Native families, knowledge of their values and belief systems.
  • Knowledge of the Anchorage School District policies and practices.
  • Continued employment status will be contingent upon receipt of a satisfactory state and federal criminal background check report.
  • Valid Alaska driver’s license and is insurable under CITC’s automotive insurance, which requires a driver to be at least 21 years of age and have had a driver’s license for at least three years.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or higher in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) or Education fields.
  • Experience working with the Anchorage School District.
