Job Description

Job Title: Teacher Assistant Teaching Assistant (Kindergarten-5th grade)

Location: Ascent Classical Academy of Northern Denver (ACAND)-Brighton, CO

FLSA Status: Non Exempt

Reports to: Dean of Faculty

Work Hours/Days: School Days are Monday through Friday, 7:15 am-3:30 pm, and 3:30-4:30 pm one day a week. A detailed calendar, including holidays, breaks, and professional development opportunities, will be provided upon hire.

Desired Start Date: August 5th, 2024

Wage Range: $18-20 per hour

ACAND is a growing school offering grades K-8 for the 2024-25 school year with plans to expand to K-12 by adding one grade per year. Ascent Classical Academy Charter Schools are dedicated to the intellectual and moral betterment of students and encourage staff members to take their own moral and intellectual improvement seriously as part of a supportive and excellence-driven culture.

Our teacher assistants model good character and assist teachers in phonics-based literacy, Singapore math, and the great ideas and works of history, science, and literature. We seek candidates with a high standard of excellence, professional demeanor, a warm rapport with students, clear communication with staff members, and a can-do attitude to join our team. The ideal candidate will be organized, diligent, and devoted to partnering with his/her teacher to help students grow in wisdom and virtue.

This position collaborates directly with his/her assigned lead teacher and reports to the Deans of Grammar school.

Essential Functions:

  • Collaborate directly with the teacher(s) to implement a content-rich classical education by following curriculum guidelines and expectations
  • Substitute teach when teacher is absent (will be compensated at a higher pay rate)
  • Assist with classroom "housekeeping" items such as collecting, organizing, and grading students' work and materials, copying worksheets, distributing materials and items, keeping a tidy classroom)
  • Build positive relationships with students by checking up on missing work, managing behaviors, executing small group and individual instruction, proctoring tests and evaluations, and meeting all accommodations
  • Assist with daily operations of the school, such as supervision of beginning and end of day routines and procedures, lunch and recess times, and other transitional periods
  • Be respectfully assertive in guiding and mentoring students, utilizing classical pedagogy methods
  • Proctor or supervise tests on the annual testing cycle (beginning of year, middle of year, end of year)
  • Proactively identify struggling or advanced students to provide additional support or academic extensions
  • Collaborate with Students Services team to meet requirements of special educational plans, such as IEPs, 504s, and others
  • Maintain confidentiality in student records
  • Maintain a collegial, professional relationship with students, parents, and colleagues as a partner in the community of learners
  • Effectively communicate with supervisor and teammates
  • Perform other related duties as directed

  • Ability to provide excellent customer service and always maintain confidentiality and professionalism
  • Willingness to support the school leadership team as needed
  • Eligibility to work in the United States
  • After an offer is accepted, a satisfactory background check as required by state law and the Colorado Department of Education
  • Willingness to perform duties as requested

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds
  • Must be able to supervise students for outdoor recess periods for at least 25 minutes outdoors
  • Must be able to traverse the classroom, school and stairs
  • Must be able to traverse classroom and adjust one's tone and height, by bending or leaning, in order to teach each child

The governing Board of Directors at ACACS has contracted with Minga Education Group (MEG) to provide employment services for all staff at ACACS.
