The Funds seeks a dynamic, self-sufficient, and experienced Manager, Compensation. You will lead the Funds’ job analyses, development of the Funds pay structure and practices to attract, engage and retain the best talent for its diverse lines of service and operations. The Funds has developed a reputation for delivering quality benefits and services to over 100,000 building services men, women plus their dependents. This role will closely partner with the director of human resources and employee & labor relations in addition to all levels of management.

A successful candidate will have a minimum of 7 years of progressive experience engaging in job analysis, job and salary benchmarking, the development and maintenance of compensation policies, pay structures, pay ranges, and pay grades.


About the Funds

The Building Service 32Bj Benefit Funds is the umbrella organization responsible for administering Health, Training, Pension, Retirement Savings, and Legal Services benefits to Local 32BJ members. The Benefit Funds' office is located in New York City and multiple states across the East coast.

Position Summary

The Manager, Compensation conducts comprehensive job and pay analysis that is in line with industry best practices and in compliance with all agencies that govern employment. The incumbent will perform thorough research and use best in class practices in these areas to recommend and develop pay structures that foster a competitive advantage to attract and retain top talent. This role serves as an advisor to management in establishing best practices in the development and maintenance of the Funds pay structure in accordance with its pay philosophy and policy.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Job Analysis

  • Prepares new and maintains existing job descriptions for all Funds positions; ensures descriptions accurately reflect the work being performed by incumbents.
  • Interviews and surveys employees and managers to gather and document job, organizational, and occupational information including duties, responsibilities, and skills required by each job.
  • Ensures compliance with the DOL (Department of Labor) and other employment governing agencies, as they relate to essential duties, assessing and determining appropriate FLSA (Fair Labor Standards Act) classifications, ADA requirements, appropriate salary ranges, etc.
  • Partners with the Talent Acquisition Team to develop candidate profiles, interview assessments and other helpful tools to support the recruitment and selection process.
  • Establishes policies and best practices in the maintenance and upkeep of all job descriptions and related information.

Compensation

  • Benchmark jobs against survey data and other market intelligence to determine competitive compensation ranges for each position.
  • Prepares and maintains job classifications and salary scales.
  • Prepares and presents summary reports of job analysis and compensation analysis information.
  • Gathers data from market-based compensation surveys; uses spreadsheet and data analysis techniques to assess results and market trends.
  • Evaluates and implements job analysis instruments and materials.
  • Conducts data and cost analyses to be used in employee negotiations and collective bargaining agreements.
  • Partners with Funds management and recommends what to pay staff at various points of their employment.
  • Advises and develops best practices in and maintenance of Funds pay structures and polices.
  • Executes all related pay activities in accordance with the Funds policies and philosophy.

General Responsibilities

  • Serves as a thought partner to management on performance management, organizational structures and effectiveness as they relate to new roles, promotions, salary increases and bonuses.
  • Collects employee feedback on specific issues or topics related to job analysis and compensation.
  • Tracks all activities and creates dashboards to monitor projects, routine, and ad Hoc assignments as they relate to job analysis and pay.
  • Partners with Talent Acquisition, HRIS, Employee & Labor Relations, Operations and Learning & Development Teams to deliver best in class service to all stakeholders.
  • Performs other related assignments or tasks as assigned.

Qualifications and Core Competencies:

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources management or related field, Labor Relations a plus.
  • 7 years of progressive HR experience with a focus on compensation.
  • Knowledge of and practiced in job analysis and tools used to perform analysis, the development and administration of pay structures, salary benchmarking and analysis, employment law, FLSA and ADA applications, and other employment regulations in NYS required. East coast states a plus.
  • Knowledge of and practiced in applying performance management factors that impact promotions, salary increases and bonuses required.
  • Knowledge of organizational structures, effectiveness, business development and operations required.
  • Advanced Excel and analytical skills required i.e., large data sets, pivot tables and reporting, v-lookups and advanced formulas required.
  • Outstanding work ethic and employment record.
  • Project management and data analysis.
  • Effective relationship management skills and ability to apply them across all levels within the organization.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Must demonstrate exceptional judgement with critical evaluation and analytical skills.
  • Well organized, attentive to detail, able to multitask, manage competing priorities and meet deadlines; and
  • Ability to work independently, and as part of a diverse team.
