Farallon Consulting, L.L.C. has a full-time opening for an experienced Staff Environmental Engineer in our Issaquah or Seattle, Washington offices.

What we are looking for

The Staff Environmental Engineer will perform professional engineering work supporting a broad range of projects that reflect Farallon’s core practices including:

  • Remedial investigations;
  • Engineering support to industrial compliance projects;
  • Remediation system design and construction; and
  • Stormwater system design, construction, and BMP implementation.

The engineering work requires a professional knowledge of the principles, methods, and techniques for designing straightforward civil engineering projects involving soil, water and/or sediments under the direction of senior engineering staff. The Staff Engineer will also be responsible for completing a wide variety of field activities including stormwater inspections, construction observation and verification, and environmental sampling and monitoring; all under the supervision of project and senior staff.

What you will be doing at Farallon:

  • Assisting in development and performance of feasibility studies and related pilot testing programs with oversight from senior staff.
  • Accurately interpreting data relative to applicable regulations and standards.
  • Developing conceptual designs and performing alternatives analysis on straightforward projects under the direction of senior engineering staff.
  • Performing design calculations, prepares cost estimates and construction specifications, and develops design drawings in AutoCAD under the direction of senior engineering staff.
  • Planning and conducting field projects in accordance with Farallon health and safety practices.
  • Performing construction observation and quality assurance with assistance of senior staff.
  • Assisting with preparation of text for reports, feasibility studies, and cleanup action plans.
  • Implementing project quality control procedures to produce products that meet Farallon standards.
  • Professionally representing Farallon to clients, vendors, regulatory agencies, and others.
  • Developing understanding of Farallon standard contract documents.
  • Assisting with preparation of engineering related material for proposals and cost estimates.
  • Collecting samples of soil, groundwater, and other environmental media in support of site investigation and remediation objectives.
  • Installing monitoring wells, performing remediation monitoring, and overseeing contractors.
  • Travel to job sites is required to support ongoing and potential project work activities.

What you will need to succeed

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil, environmental, or related engineering discipline.
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certificate or ability to obtain within one year.
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office 365 Suite, including Outlook, Excel, and Word.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to assertively direct others in the field such as subcontracted drillers, excavation contractors, utility locators, and others to consistently complete tasks safely and efficiently.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical work hours.
  • Ability to analyze data and applying problem-solving skills.
  • Willingness to learn and complete basic reporting and paperwork tasks.
  • Knowledge of appropriate state regulations, including appropriate health and safety regulations required to perform typical field and office tasks.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds and perform field work and a wide range of physical activities, including sustained walking, standing, and reaching, in an outdoor environment.
  • Must be able to wear respiratory protection and pass baseline physical for job position.
  • Valid driver’s license and safe driving record.

Ideally, you’ll also have

  • 40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) (29 CFR 1910.120).
  • Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training.
  • 2+ years of field experience

Pay Range

Our best estimate of the base salary range for this position, located in the Seattle, Washington metro area is $65,000 – $85,000. Compensation offered will be based on a variety of individual factors, including education and experience, as well as internal equity. Farallon reviews and updates salary ranges annually, and employees are eligible for pay increases based on individual performance. The typical base salary range for this position is just one component of Farallon’s total compensation package for our employee-owners.
