ABOUT THE ROLE:

The Consumer Underwriter II role encompasses underwriting indirect automotive and consumer loans. This position requires credit review and evaluation of loan applications, and verification / quality control of loan packages to ensure alignment with Credit Union policy and guidelines. Responds to questions and/or provides information upon request from members (internal and external). Assists members and potential members in understanding and utilizing the Credit Union's products and services.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES (in descending order of importance)

  1. Utilizing approved lending authority to review, analyze, underwrite and make prudent decisions on indirect, secured and unsecured finance applications that are in compliance with applicable federal and/or state laws, regulations and/or Credit Union rules, standards and guidelines.
  2. Mitigates risk through thorough underwriting practices, balancing risk versus reward to assist in building a strong portfolio that meets Credit Union credit quality and performance objectives.
  3. Responsible for ongoing management of existing Indirect Lending relationships. Conducts regular reviews of performance metrics with key stakeholders at the Credit Union and dealership.
  4. In person visits to train and educate indirect dealers about Navigant Credit Union's products and services. Be able to assess a dealers' needs and provide solutions to help them succeed financially.
  5. Utilizes tact and experienced based knowledge to research/resolve/respond to member and dealership problems/concerns by explaining specific policies and products.
  6. Represents the Credit Union in a professional manner and maintains positive member and vendor relations.
  7. Assist with loan document processing and funding as needed.
  8. Performs other related duties as assigned by Management.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education

High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) required.

Experience/Skills/Knowledge:

  1. Minimum three years consumer (indirect, mortgage and equity) lending experience, preferably in a financial institution or three years automobile dealership finance experience.
  2. Demonstrated knowledge of consumer lending policies, procedures, laws and regulations. Familiarity with retail installment contracts and valuation forms is a plus.
  3. Excellent organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  4. Ability to handle multiple projects/priorities simultaneously with an effective outcome.
  5. Excellent verbal, written, telephone and interpersonal communication skills. Must possess a strong service orientation and be willing to establish and follow service level standard.
  6. PC proficient, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and the Internet.
  7. Ability to function in a commercial office environment and utilize standard office equipment including but not limited to: fax, copier, telephone, etc. Some travel required. Ability to lift a minimum of 25lbs. e.g. file boxes
  8. Periodic travel to Navigant Branches may be required.
