Chassis Mechanic

JOB DESCRIPTION Summary/Objective
The Chassis Mechanic is responsible for providing quality maintenance and repairs within given standard times, as well as scheduled and unscheduled maintenance. These services are performed on both the interior and exterior components of the chassis. The mechanic is responsible for practicing safe work habits and for maintaining a clean and safe work place environment.
Essential Functions

1. Performs maintenance in accordance with Sun Terminals standards
2. Completes a safety risk assessment prior all work performed
3. Repairs and maintains chassis and coach related components
4. Removes, cleans, repairs, re-installs, and adjusts chassis components including but not limited to the exterior components, driveline components, electrical components, interior and exterior chassis components, hydraulic
5. Performs preventive maintenance inspections on chassis in accordance with company standard operating procedures
6. Ensures work orders are completed properly and accurately
7. Conducts appropriate course of action for repairs and follow up on written/printed repairs orders and ensures proper information flow of work order data on daily chassis inspection reports
8. Inspects all chassis on a regularly scheduled basis for physical damage. Any damage will be reported immediately to the supervision
9. Evaluates completed work prior to release and seeks supervisor approval where required.
10. Ensures safe use of all shop equipment, power and hand-held tools.
11. Performs road calls and emergency services as necessary
12. Communicates professionally with team members, supervisors, and customers.
13. Actively participates in safety or educational training as required
14. In the event of a fuel or fluid spills, takes all necessary steps to contain the spill
15. Follows all safety standards & guidelines, including but not limited to, wearing of safety glasses, wearing of steel-toed/safety shoes, appropriate safety gloves as needed, and proper attire
16. Performs any other management requests or directives as requested
Experience and Skills
1. High School Diploma
2. 2 years hands-on experience in chassis maintenance, diagnosis and repair
3. Ability to utilize computer systems to diagnose chassis systems
4. Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
5. Must be able to speak and read conversational English
Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment
This position works in a port/terminal/yard setting, with constant outdoor exposure during the workday.
Work Authorization/Security Clearance
Employee must be authorized to work in the United States.
