Required Qualifications:
- Appropriate Michigan Certification required or be able to obtain temporary approval as a Special Education Teacher as per Michigan Department of Special Education Rules (340.1781 and 1782).
- Meet requirements for a background check and fingerprinting.
- Alternate applicable qualifications may be considered.
Preferred Qualifications:
- A knowledge of reading science and an understanding of current best practices in reading instruction.
- Experience progress monitoring in reading and math.
- Experience providing reading/math interventions within the context of a broader MTSS program or special education setting.
Job Requirements, Knowledge, and Skills:
- Successful experience working with students with disabilities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of content expectations/standards.
- Knowledge of best practices in classroom instruction and technology integration.
- Experience working as part of a collaborative team.
A successful candidate will:
- Complete assessments of students and based upon those assessments will develop Individualized Educational Plans for those students; including the development of the Present Level of Academic Achievement and Functional Performance (PLAAFP), Identification of Unique Individualized Educational needs, and Goals and Instructional Objectives for students assigned to their caseloads.
- Be responsible for the instructional planning for the classroom and the delivery or direction of instructional activities in the classroom and other settings within the school.
- Develop, provide, and utilize instructional plans, strategies, methods, materials, and techniques that best meet the needs of individual students.
- Provide leadership, direction, and oversight of the paraprofessional(s) within the classroom environment.
- Work as a part of building MTSS teams to provide intervention and progress monitoring for students.
- Timely and accurately complete required and necessary paperwork, including but not limited to lesson plans, emergency plans/data, allergy plans, progress reports, behavioral support plans/documentation, Functional Behavioral Assessments, etc.
- Communicate appropriately and effectively with parents in writing and verbally.
- Participate as part of a work team and work effectively with others within the school environment.
- Attend required workshops, in-services, and training.
- Other duties as assigned by administration.
Salary:
As per negotiated district contract.
