Job Description:
The General Maintenance Worker is responsible for performing general maintenance, minor preventive maintenance and repair of interior and exterior of buildings, sanitation systems, low voltage electrical systems, and components associated with military family housing and Bachelor's Quarters facilities, at various locations.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists journeyman craftsmen in assigned tasks
  • Maintains, repairs, and replaces doors, woodwork, paneling, drywall, floor coverings, etc.
  • Replace electrical receptacles, wires, switches, fixtures, motors, etc.
  • Works from blueprints, drawings, models, or verbal and written instructions
  • Performs occasional painting or touching up of structures or equipment
  • Performs minor preventive maintenance actions, including but not limited to changing air filters, lubricating fittings or components, performing inspections and taking readings
  • Repairs or replaces plumbing fixtures such as sinks, faucets, toilets, etc.
  • Replaces broken windows
  • Provides daily reports of task performed at the end of the work day
  • Follows established safety procedures and utilizes safety protective equipment and clothing that pertains to particular trades or skills
  • Ensures proper housekeeping practices are observed
  • Performs other related work as assigned


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of common safety practices and protective equipment
  • Skill in the use of hand and power tools
  • Ability to understand and follow directions
  • Ability to read, write and speak English proficiently
  • Ability to work cooperatively and safely with others on common projects


Minimum Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Four (4) years' experience in one or more of the following construction trades: painting,
    carpentry, plumbing, masonry, or electrical
  • Ability to read, write and speak English proficiently
  • Possession of valid driver's license with acceptable driving record
  • Ability to obtain access to U.S. Government Installations through the Defense Biometric
    Identification System (DBIDS)

Work conditions:
Work conditions require the employee to stand; climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; taste or smell; and work on scaffolding and ladders. The employee may frequently lift and/or move objects weighing up to 35 pounds without assistance and lift and/or move heavier objects with assistance.
