HVAC Mechanic - $40/hr

Job Summary

The Heating, Ventilation, and Air-Conditioning (HVAC) Mechanic provides all HVAC services at the CMI customer site in Indian Head, MD.

Key Job Functions

• Installs, services and repairs environmental-control HVAC systems typically found in Residential and Commercial properties.
• Monitors and controls HVAC systems through Automation systems and daily tours.
• Performs Preventive Maintenance and can troubleshoot, diagnose and repair: Air Conditioning and Heat Pump package units, split systems, air and water cooled systems, self-contained, direct expansion, glycol, chilled water, package boilers (natural gas and oil fired).
• Mounts compressor and condenser units on platform or floor
• Installs evaporator unit in chassis or in air-duct system, using hand tools
• Cuts and bends tubing to correct length and shape, using cutting and bending equipment and tools
• Cuts and threads pipe, using machine-threading or hand-threading equipment, joins tubing or pipes to various refrigerating units by means of sleeves, couplings or unions, and solders joints, using torch, forming complete circuit for refrigerant
• Installs expansion and discharge valves in circuit
• Connects motors, compressors, temperature controls, humidity controls, and circulating ventilation fans to control panels and connects control panels to power source
• Adds refrigerant/Freon gas to build up prescribed operating pressure
• Observes pressure and vacuum gauges and adjusts controls to insure proper operation
• Tests joints and connections for gas leaks, using gauges, electronic detectors or soap-and-water solution

Education and Qualifications

• At least 5 years experience in commercial HVAC
• Active CFC license
• Journeyman HVAC License; masters HVAC license a plus
• Knowledge of refrigeration theory, pipefitting and structural layout
• Ability to follow blueprints or engineering specifications
