POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Chief Operations Officer this position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Primarily responsible for the day to day operations within the department (fitness & group exercise) as well as the development, delivery, implementation and evaluation of high quality health & wellness program(s) in accordance with the policies, procedures and standards established by the Sonoma County Family YMCA. Engage in active listening with members and program participants in order to build relationships, understand individual’s goals and interests, and take the initiative to assist in the achievement of those goals.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

· Effective communication skills and ability to work with a diverse population

• Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules, and directs personnel/volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates

staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.

· Cultivates a member-focused team and determine required core competencies & skills and trainings as needed

· Ability to support members in their health & wellness journey through relationship building

· Demonstrate through action & interaction with staff, members & the community, the Y’s Mission & core values

· Work with the Membership Director to maximize the experience for new members.

· Ensure proper implementation and balance of wellness offerings, classes and programs to provide maximum

opportunities for member/staff connections.

· Collaborate and work effectively with all departments to achieve desired results.

· Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.

· Monitor daily operations to adhere to all safety standards & policies. Ensure all staff are current with required

certifications.

• Proven ability in forecasting, budgeting and financial control, program management and development

· Analyze and evaluate data, systems & processes to recognize growth and retention opportunities within the wellness

department, ensuring a diverse offering of classes and programs.

· Ability to read, analyze, and interpret policies. Ability to respond to and resolve common inquiries or concerns

• Manage equipment and facilities in areas of responsibility including preventative maintenance, cleaning and repair

and replacement planning.

· Actively participates in all fundraising efforts, which includes Annual Giving Campaign and Spin-a-thon

• Key part of Management Team; serving as Manager on Duty, attending weekly meetings

· Participate & support various Y/community events

• Identify, develop and nurture collaborative relationships with community organizations

· Develop, oversee, market & evaluate all programming as it relates to health & wellness

· Develops, oversees and promotes virtual wellness platform

• Ability to adapt to changing context & priorities and work in a highly flexible & rapidly changing work environment

• All other duties deemed necessary by Supervisor


QUALIFICATIONS:

· Bachelor degree in health sciences, wellness, kinesiology or related field of study preferred

· Minimum of 3 years of related experience, staff supervision, customer service, health & wellness program

development and fiscal/financial management

· Must possess current CPR/First Aid w/ AED & be able to respond to safety/emergency situations

· Microsoft Office proficiency required

· Must have exceptional interpersonal and communication skills

· Demonstrated ability to train, mentor and develop staff

· Demonstrated skills in sales, fundraising, public relations and programming for wellness initiatives
