Job Description

JOB OVERVIEW:

The Design Engineer will support the manufacturing team on the design and development of equipment intended for use on photovoltaic projects. This position will act as Subject Matter Expert (SME) who will design and detail various products including assemblies and manufactured parts. Product designs will be specific to electrical equipment and assemblies. The ideal candidate possesses a strong technical background, estimating knowledge, the ability to effectively communicate, and has great attention to detail. Must be a self-starter and critical thinker. Review manufacturing operations to ensure product design and manufactured equipment meets specifications. Provide estimating support as needed.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES:

OPERATIONS:

  • Review and interpret project design documents to establish detailing criteria.
  • Recommend changes to the electrical design to support manufacturing and installation processes.
  • Interpret technical drawings and product information data sheets.
  • Develop detailed installation plans, specifically product installation details.
  • Identify material, assemblies and sub-assemblies needed for electrical installation and manufacturing and ability to create associated bills of material (BOM).
  • Ensure design for installation and manufacturing drawings and BOMs align with product scope requirements and applicable standards.
  • Create product testing requirements for pre-delivery and post-delivery quality assurance and commissioning.
  • Train on and perform duties in accordance with the quality management system (QMS).
  • Design and create full technical submittal document sets.
  • Optimize installation by selecting and/or verifying the most cost-effective and efficient products.
  • Understand and communicate drawing specifications to support the estimating team of PV.
  • Develop estimated costs for manufactured equipment utilizing assigned estimating software.

INNOVATIONS:

  • Collaborating with management to establish strategic direction and objectives.
  • Improve existing product line offerings and suggest ideas for new products that ensure project constructability.
  • Implement new products and ensure conformity with design criteria including manufacturing oversight and installation oversight in the field.

SAFETY:

  • Find and encourage the positive behaviors in the facilities.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering preferred.
  • Design and/or Engineering experience in Electrical Power and/or Distribution Systems preferred.
  • Installation experience on medium and high voltage distribution systems OR Renewable Energy projects highly preferred.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD required.
  • Preference given for knowledge and/or background in estimating.
  • Preference given for experience in Solar, Renewable Energy or Power Generation.
  • Prior experience with take-offs & assemblies.
  • Knowledge of technological advancements in electrical systems and components.
  • Understanding of electrical materials, and construction means and methods.
  • Ability to read and understand technical drawings.
  • Experience in Microsoft Office Suite is required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be a self-starter and present critical thinking abilities.
  • Ability to travel as needed.
