Summary
As an Older Youth practicum student, you will have the opportunity to with the needs of homeless, runaway, foster, and at-risk youth and connecting them with resources, crisis intervention, referral information, life skills instruction, and tangible goods to provide for their basic needs. This is an unpaid internship with Epworth.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Crisis intervention services to at-risk, runaway and homeless youth on the streets and in the Drop-In Center.
- Assist with in-person structured life skills classes in the Drop-in Center during the day and on Wednesdays and Thursdays evenings
- Assist with paperwork required for in-person classes, such as life skills certificates, attendance sheets, etc.)
- Assist with development of new curriculum and/or facilitate group life skills instruction under the supervision of trained instructors.
- Complete required client intake and enrollment documentation.
- Conduct street outreach with experienced staff out in the community to locate homeless and at-risk youth in need of services.
- Assist with the planning and supervision of special youth activities and events on site and out in the community.
- Participate in outreach events and community presentations as needed.
Qualifications:
- Undergraduate student majoring in psychology, criminal justice, sociology, education, or related field
Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of St. Louis neighborhoods and understanding of the dynamics of street youth preferred.
- Experience working with runaway, homeless, foster care, and street youth and/or youth who have emotional and behavioral issues preferred.
- Organizational skills and experience with group facilitation and presentations preferred.
- The physical requirements of this job include sitting, standing, walking and climbing stairs on a regular basis, lifting up to 25lbs, pulling and/or pushing on occasion.
