Automotive Technician

JOB SUMMARY
Maintains service operations by inspecting and maintaining NEMHS Ambulances, Shuttles and Wheelchair Vans as well as other vehicles owned and operated by NEMHS, as well as external customers.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS- Performs Preventive Maintenance Services with oil changes, as well as engine component repair & replacement, transmission services and external repairs.
- Brake, axle, driveline, steering, suspension diagnosis, repair & replacement.
- Electronic Control and Air Conditioning diagnosis, repair & replacement.
- Tire replacement, rotation, wheel balancing and troubleshooting tire wear.
- Accomplishes maintenance and organization mission by completing repair orders with concise repair information and charging out parts used.
- Complies with State Inspection Standards
- Observes all company safety practices.
- Follows the direction of the Fleet Manager and contributes to a team environment.
- Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- CFC-608 Refrigeration Certification
- State Inspection
- Valid Maine Driving License
- 2 years or more of experience preferred
- Willing to train the right candidate
- While performing repairs, auto technicians must often work in cramped places, such as underneath jacked-up vehicles. Automotive work requires bending, turning and squatting. In order to access hard-to-reach areas on a vehicle that needs repairs, technicians need a good range of motion in their limbs.
- Technicians should possess excellent manual dexterity and fine motor skills. They must be able to work with small fasteners, such as nuts, bolts, and washers. They must also be able to handle with finesse the many small components that make up the various systems of a vehicle.
- Normal color vision is a must for auto mechanics. They need to be able to read diagrams. Often, they are required to work with color-coded wiring. Auto mechanics also need good close-up vision, either normal or corrected, to see small parts and fasteners.
Cognitive
Hearing: Must be able to continuously hear normal sounds and voice patterns, receive verbal instructions, answer a phone, and communicate with others with moderate background noise.
Concentration: Must be able to continuously concentrate on moderate details with frequent interruption.
Attention Span: Must be able to frequently attend to tasks for up to 45 minutes at a time.
Conceptualization: Must be able to frequently understand and relate to ideas, generally several at a time, and interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written or oral form.
Memory: Must be able to frequently remember verbal and written tasks.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
- Work is performed primarily indoors, in the garage bay area with some outside exposure.
- Moderate exposure to dust in storage areas.
- The noise level is usually moderate to high.
