As one of the shop's most experienced technical resources, you'll diagnose and repair complex vehicle issues, perform advanced mechanical repairs, mentor fellow technicians, and help maintain the highest standards of workmanship, safety, and customer satisfaction.


From advanced diagnostics to major engine repair, you'll play a critical role in keeping our customers safely on the road while helping develop the next generation of technicians.


What You'll Do

Advanced Diagnostics

  • Diagnose complex drivability, engine performance,      transmission, electrical, and network communication concerns.
  • Utilize scan tools, oscilloscopes,      digital multimeters, pressure gauges, and manufacturer service      information.
  • Analyze live data to accurately identify root causes of      mechanical and electrical failures.
  • Diagnose ABS, SRS, charging, starting, steering,      suspension, HVAC, engine management, and computer-controlled vehicle      systems.

Major Mechanical Repairs

  • Perform engine teardown, overhaul, repair, and      replacement.
  • Repair timing components, cylinder      heads, cooling systems, and internal engine components.
  • Diagnose and repair drivetrain,      suspension, steering, brake, charging, and electrical systems.
  • Perform advanced electrical diagnostics and complex      wiring repairs.

Technical Leadership and Mentorship

  • Mentor and train apprentice, Level 1, and Level 2      technicians.
  • Provide technical guidance and assist with difficult      diagnostic challenges.
  • Share best practices and help      develop the technical skills of the service team.
  • Promote a collaborative, team-focused work      environment.

Quality and Safety

  • Perform quality control inspections before vehicles      are returned to customers.
  • Ensure repairs meet manufacturer      specifications and company quality standards.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and      safe work environment.
  • Promote safety, accountability, and continuous      improvement throughout the shop.

Customer Support and Shop Operations

  • Assist Service Advisors with technical      recommendations and repair explanations.
  • Provide accurate repair recommendations and support      estimate development.
  • Help coordinate workflow to maximize shop productivity      and efficiency.
  • Build customer confidence through professionalism,      honesty, and quality workmanship.

ASE Skill Alignment

This role aligns closely with ASE Master Technician certification, including:

  • A1 - Engine Repair
  • A2 - Automatic      Transmission/Transaxle
  • A3 - Manual Drivetrain and Axles
  • A4 - Suspension and Steering
  • A5 - Brakes
  • A6 - Electrical/Electronic Systems
  • A7 - Heating and Air Conditioning
  • A8 - Engine Performance
  • A9 - Light Vehicle Diesel

ASE certifications are preferred but not required at hire. Gills Point S proudly supports technicians pursuing and maintaining ASE certifications through training, development, and reimbursement opportunities.

Requirements

Physical Requirements: This position requires frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, lifting up to 75 pounds, and safely operating shop equipment while working in a fast-paced environment. Candidates must be able to perform work both inside the shop and outdoors in varying weather conditions while following all company safety policies.


What We're Looking For

  • Must be over the age      of 18. 
  • Vocational or technical automotive      training preferred.
  • 5-7 years      of professional automotive repair experience.
  • Willingness to pursue and maintain ASE certifications      with company support.
  • Expert-level diagnostic and      troubleshooting abilities across multiple vehicle systems.
  • Experience performing major engine      repairs, advanced electrical diagnostics, and complex drivability repairs.
  • Proficiency using modern diagnostic equipment, scan      tools, oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, and specialty tools.
  • Valid      driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and organizational      skills.
  • Commitment to quality workmanship,      safety, and customer satisfaction.
  • Ability to lead by example while supporting and      developing fellow technicians.
