Due to increased production, Northern Star (Pogo) LLC has a challenging and rewarding opportunity for an Automotive Electrician at our world-class Pogo operation in Alaska on a rotational camp schedule.

What's the role?

The Automotive Electrician reports to the Mobile Maintenance Supervisor, and the primary role is to carry out electrical and instrumentation installation and maintenance of machinery as directed by the Supervisor within the Maintenance Department.

Duties include:

  • Perform a high standard of automotive electrical execution, all work completed in a safe and timely manner.
  • Installation and maintenance of electrical and auto/remote systems on mobile mining equipment
  • Diagnose and fault-find electrical systems and components.
  • Provide technical advice and support to fellow Maintenance Team members.
  • Ensure workmanship through meeting standards, tolerances and testing of equipment prior to handover.
  • Identify correct parts and equipment for all planned and unplanned jobs as necessary.
  • Assist Mobile Maintenance and Light Vehicle teams as required with mechanical repairs.
  • Highlight equipment defects and issues effectively utilizing the maintenance management process.
  • Rigorous cost management - avoid rework and the unnecessary use of parts and services.

The specifics:

  • Experience in installation and maintenance of vehicle/mobile equipment electrical and automation systems.
  • Practical experience in the mining/automotive industry.
  • Demonstrated fault-finding and diagnostic experience.
  • Ability to interpret electrical drawings.
  • Demonstrated application of safe working procedures and inspection techniques.
  • Ability to communicate ideas clearly and effectively.
  • Computer literacy Microsoft Office, CMMS, OEM Diagnostic Tools.
  • Flexibility to adapt to improved procedures and practices.
  • Awareness of the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) Act & Regulations.
  • Must have good comprehension of safe operating procedures, safety rules, policies, emergency procedures, and MSHA requirements.
  • Must pass a post offer physical and drug test, as well as a background check.

The Details:

Working a 3 weeks on, 3 weeks off rotating schedule of days and nights, up to 12 hours a day or more at a remote campsite. Extreme conditions, including but not limited to extreme and changing weather conditions, dust, mud, varying levels of noise, varying degrees of light and dark, in and around artificial light and in a confined work area.

Employees are required to stay on site at the company provided camp during the work rotation. Camp facilities provide dining service, games room, exercise & weight room, sauna, and accommodation rooms. Dormitory rooms have a land line phone, great Wi-Fi & cable TV. Cell service is available through Wi-Fi. The Company provides a bus service to and from Fairbanks, Delta Junction and Tok, Alaska.
