Summary

QC Inspector performs visual and dimensional inspection of in-process cylinders to ensure production meets requirements.

Essential Functions

QC Inspector essential duties include, but are in no way limited to:
  • Inspect and approve the first piece of a job before running entire production.
  • Verify product traceability.
  • Verify that job traveler is accurate and signed-off on all operations.
  • Complete in-process inspection checklists.
  • Calibrate measuring tools before use as necessary. Verify the date on calibration sticker.
  • Use a variety of measurement instruments to confirm part dimensions.
  • Inspect parts, verifying that final parts satisfy all requirements indicated by job travelers before shipping parts to customers.
  • Actively communicate with quality control and production personnel to ensure the continuous production of quality parts.
  • Maintain accurate records and part-counts of current production.
  • Complete all necessary paperwork.
  • Assure quality and production requirements are met, as per the job travelers.
  • Participate in total quality management projects to achieve continuous improvement.
  • Participate in LEAN manufacturing and SPC activities as required.

Marginal Functions

The QC Inspector will also be proficient in the following tasks:
  • Perform any other duties not mentioned above when instructed to do so by a supervisor.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area.

Supervisory Responsibilities
  • None.

Required Safety Equipment
  • Safety glasses required in shop areas
  • Steel toe work boots
  • Ear plugs - as needed
  • Safety lifting belt - recommended

Environmental Conditions
  • Work environment is primarily indoors in an industrial manufacturing plant.
  • Temperatures in work area can exceed 90oF.
  • Some chemical-use occurs in the work area.
  • Mild-to-moderate noise from machinery/tool-use exists throughout shift.

Physical Demands
  • Stand/walk continuously throughout the scheduled shift.
  • Lift and manipulate parts up to 50 lbs.
  • Capable of repetitive reaching, twisting and bending.

All of the above physical activities were described and observed to be essential and could not be modified.

Sensory/Cognitive Demands
  • Communicate actively with quality control and production personnel.
  • Read travelers, blueprints and other technical drawings.
  • Use and read all necessary precision instruments.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in basic mathematics with fractions and decimals.
  • Exercise methodical reasoning as necessary to improve or correct production.
  • Recognize any mechanical dysfunctions and notify a supervisor.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Employee is occasionally exposed to moving forklifts, heavy moving forgings and may include overhead machinery.
  • Work environment is indoors. Workstation is located in an industrial manufacturing plant.
  • Heat Index in manufacturing can exceed 90 °F HI in late summer months.
  • Noise level in the work environment usually varies from light to moderate

Requirements

Education/Work Experience Requirements
  • Must be able to read blueprints.
  • Must be trained and pass the inspection test to qualify as a QC Inspector.
  • Some high school or vocational school is preferred, but not required.
