Job Description

Position Summary

The Recovery Place Kent Nurse Manager is responsible for managing the 24-hour nursing units (Evaluation and Treatment and Secure Withdrawal Management and Stabilization) to provide safe, efficient, and quality patient care. In meeting this responsibility, the Nurse Manager assists in the selection of unit nursing staff, schedules and supervises unit staff, and develops and implements unit programs to meet specific patient care needs. The Nurse Manager provides leadership to promote professional nursing practice, and further, provides administrative leadership through mentoring and training, participation in administrative decision-making processes, and support and development of policies and programs.

 

Essential Job Functions

·      Ensure nursing practice compliance with state, county, federal regulations, as well as accrediting bodies such as The Joint Commission.

·      Ensure nursing compliance with Infection Control measures.

·      Generate schedules for nursing staff to ensure adequate staffing for safe care of all admitted clients.

·      Work directly with Scheduling Coordinator to design and assign nursing schedules.

·      Assign, direct, supervise, and evaluate nursing staff on the delivery of patient care.

·      Develop and oversee nursing workflows to ensure productivity, efficiency, and quality patient care.

·      Participate in direct nursing activities as needed.

·      Order supplies and equipment and supervise the proper use and maintenance of facility equipment.

·      Foster a team culture of safety, flexibility, creativity, mutual support and dedication to client care.

·      Promote a safe, calm, secure environment of care to promote recovery and wellness.

·      Plan and conduct team meetings to discuss patient care, progress and planning.

·      Participate in recruiting, hiring, and other administrative duties, to include primary disciplinary and termination decisions for nursing staff in concert with Human Resources and the Director of Nursing.

·      Assist in orientation of new hires.

·      Develop and provide staff training on nursing and clinical issues as identified.

·      Evaluate employee performance and report as required to Director of Nursing/ HR.

·      Make recommendations about changes to nursing services, participate in creation or revision of policies and procedures as requested.

·      Participate in organizational, regional and partner meetings to keep abreast of current issues, inform and educate staff accordingly.

·      Participate in chart review, auditing, and utilization review activities to ensure compliance with regulations, safety, and quality of care measures.

·      Interact with the public, county, state and federal agencies on behalf of the organization as part of the management and leadership team.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

·      Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN) required; Master’s degree in nursing, healthcare, business or related field desirable

·      Current license to practice nursing in Washington State

Experience:

·      1-2 years of nursing experience in a supervisory role

·      3 years of nursing experience (psychiatric nursing or detox preferred)

·      Familiarity with WAC requirements, Joint Commission standards, and professional standards of mental health and substance use disorder treatment

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

·      Basic computer literacy including familiarity with use of EMR and Microsoft office products

·      Familiarity with principles and practices of effective employee supervision, development and evaluation

·      Understanding of the laws and regulations pertaining to civil commitment in WA

·      Familiarity with state and federal regulations pertaining to psychiatric and SUD treatment

·      Familiarity with uses and functions of psychiatric medications and narcotics

·      Familiarity with best practices in substance use disorder treatment including detoxification protocols

·      Understanding of common mental and physical illnesses, disabilities, injuries, nutrition

·      Familiarity with safety practices related to care in locked psychiatric facilities

·      Proficiency in operating basic medical equipment

·      High integrity/ethical standards

·      Ability to establish positive, respectful and collaborative professional relationships

·      Flexibility, team-orientation

·      Ability to work effectively under pressure

·      Receptive to change and presentation of new knowledge

·      Ability to anticipate challenges and implement innovative solutions

·      Dedication to providing client-centered, culturally-sensitive, trauma-informed care

·      Ability to exercise independent judgment in emergencies

Working Conditions

Direct nursing care requires the ability to lift, push, pull, twist, stoop, lift up to 50lbs without assistance. Most work takes place in usual office working conditions, where the noise level in the work area is typical of most office environments with telephones, personal interruptions, and background noises. Perform duties of a nurse as needed, which will include exposure to hazardous materials (such as body fluids, needle sticks).
