Job Summary:

The duties and responsibilities of the Certified Medication Aide (CMA) include preparation and administration of medications to residents. Documentation of residents' conditions in the Electronic Health Record (EHR), communication skills.

Job Qualifications:

Education: High School, Completion of CMA course (Medication Aide), CNA Course completion Licensure: Current CMA certification (Medication Aide); Current CNA Certification Experience: Minimum required 1 year of related experience; preferred 5 years of experience Skills: Computer literacy, excellent communication skills, and team orientation Transportation: Ability to ensure timely arrival and stable transportation. Exemption Status: Non-Exempt

Environmental and Working Conditions:

The CMA works primarily in the healthcare community environment. It is possible that the work may include limited exposure to residents' infectious conditions involving Risk Classification Categories 1, 2, and 3**. Environmental conditions will fluctuate. To be qualified for the position, applicants and teammates will have the ability to work in an environment conducive to caring for residents, with or without reasonable accommodation and without posing a direct threat to themselves or others.

** Universal Precautions Risk Classification Categories **

  1. Tasks may involve exposure to blood or body fluids.
  2. Tasks do not involve contact with blood or body fluids but could result in performing a Category 1 task.
  3. Tasks do not involve any risk of exposure to blood and body fluids.

Physical and Mental Effort:

The CMA works primarily in a healthcare community environment and must be able to move throughout the buildings and grounds as needed throughout the day. Ability to lift up to 40 pounds. Requires working under some stressful conditions to meet resident/family needs and deadlines.

Essential Functions:

Communicate effectively with residents, families, other teammates, and supervisor

Prepare and administer medications per physician orders and in accordance with federal/state regulations and facility policies

Perform vital signs as assigned and document

Communicate any reported/observed condition changes to charge nurse and document in Care Tracker

Document resident conditions and needs in all EHRs according to facility procedures

Reports all incidents and/or complaints according to facility procedures

Promotes resident independence, interacts with residents in a manner promoting mental and physical well-being.

Perform daily care per the resident's care plan, observed needs, and within regulations and facility standards of care and policies.

Monitor and assist with ordering and care of resident's supplies and prescriptions

Recognize, respond, and make prompt and accurate judgments with regard to resident care needs.

Maintain the resident's environment in a safe and tidy manner, including adherence to infection control practices.

Perform assigned tasks in accordance with facility policies and procedures

Perform C.N.A. duties as assigned.

Perform other assignments as requested.

Establish and encourage an atmosphere of optimism, warmth, and interest in residents' activity preferences and needs.
