THE OFFICE, Specialty Auto Repair Shop

If you already posses high-level office skills, but would prefer to work in a setting where jeans and casual shoes are acceptable, please read on! A big small-business adventure has come available as the solo office worker for a small stable specialty British-car repair workshop.
SUMMARY:
Position includes all office work, reception, and daily management of clients’ cases; it is almost everything about running the shop other than advising on repairs and actually fixing the cars. A long term opportunity for a full-time salaried job in a nurturing environment, this in neither an ‘assistant’ nor a ‘manager’ position: It is the whole job.

HELPFUL, BUT REALLY NOT NECESSARY:
Any background in automotive parts, repair, or machine shop could prove very helpful. High proficiency with Quickbooks Pro is useful, as is the ability to manipulate and write formulas for spreadsheets. General knowledge about British cars is especially welcome. And if not already part of your toolkit, this all will need to be mastered to do the job: if you’re not into learning about cars, you can’t survive here.
ENVIRONMENT:
The shop is heated but cool in winter, and cooled but warm in summer. It is a repair facility with all the sounds and smells which that entails. The office and customer area is lighted by huge windows to the west, and shares the same building the workshop itself.
HIERARCHY:
There is the owner, who incidentally serves as general manager and service advisor, but is really just our machinist. There is you. Then there are several mechanics and our intern. That’s all. Small is beautiful.
HOURS AND TERMS OVERVIEW:
While we are open 9 to 5 weekdays, the office owner usually needs at least 45 work-hours a week to be effective. Vacation/sick benefits begin after a year and accrue each year from none to 25 paid days off, plus paid holidays (blue-collar days only, sorry); ½ health insurance contribution is available after the probation period.
Expect a starting salary offer of $40-50k depending on experience and other relevant esoteric qualifications you bring to the table. A paid training probation period will be needed. A five-year minimum commitment is expected.
TO APPLY:
Please email a cover letter about yourself, your pursuits and interests. If we are interested we will get back to you and ask for a resume, or more. If we are then still interested we’ll contact you to arrange for an initial interview. Since we are a very small shop, and highly dependent on the Office Owner, we will want to engage our final candidates in at least two meetings. Hoping for applicants that read and follow instructions, we don’t plan to review any unaccompanied resumes.
Sorry, we are not in a position to interview walk-in candidates at that time.
Thank you for considering us!!
