JCC Greater Boston is seeking an experienced and dedicated Outdoor Pool Manager to oversee the daily operation and management of our outdoor pool facilities. As the Outdoor Pool Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and enjoyment of all pool patrons, supervising the pool staff, and maintaining a clean and well-maintained pool area. This position will pay $22 - $27/hr. as a starting salary. The salary offered will ultimately be determined by the hours the employee will work, the scope of the position, the candidate’s relevant experience, and internal equity. This position will start in mid-May or mid-June and run through Labor Day. This is a part-time, seasonal position; This position will start in mid-May or mid-June and run through Labor Day.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and train lifeguards and other pool staff
  • Oversee the implementation of safety procedures and emergency protocols
  • Maintain a safe and clean pool environment, including regular testing of water quality and chemical balance
  • Schedule and coordinate swim lessons, pool rentals, and other pool programs
  • Respond to member inquiries and address any concerns or issues
  • Manage pool equipment and supplies, including ordering and inventory
  • Collaborate with other departments and staff to ensure a positive member experience
  • Assist with special events and activities as needed

Requirements

  • Valid American Red Cross Lifeguard and CPR/AED certified or able to become certified within 14 days of hire.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience managing a pool or aquatic facility

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted at the JCC’s discretion to meet minimum criteria.

Skills and Abilities

  • At least one year of Aquatics Industry experience (preferred).
  • Is cheerful, modeling a “can do” approach
  • Has strong teamwork & relationship building skills, the ability to multitask, and the ability to manage situations effectively and diplomatically
  • Has personal discipline and role modeling (e.g. high standards, punctuality, taking initiative)
  • Has computer skills: Word, Excel, Email, Google Docs
  • Is able to mentor staff members, especially junior team members
  • Has a desire and skills to maintain good working relationships with staff members, maintenance personnel, administrative personnel, and pool patrons
  • Is able to see what is needed and take action proactively
  • Has an attitude that strives to meet JCC goals and objectives
  • Excellent leadership and supervisory skills
  • Strong knowledge of pool operations, safety protocols, and water quality management
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Ability to handle and resolve conflicts in a professional manner
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed

Physical Requirements:

Is able to:

Cognitive

  • See, hear, and cognitively recognize situations requiring lifeguarding services
  • Make safety-related decisions
  • Communicate with community members and coworkers in person effectively, over email, and on the phone
  • Read, write, understand, and speak English

Physical

  • Work in a high-temperature and high-humidity environment for extended periods
  • Vision requirements include the ability to read routine and technical documents, use a computer, and answer a telephone
  • Stand, walk, sit, stoop, and kneel frequently
  • Maintain an appropriate level of fitness in order to complete all job-related tasks, including the ability to swim distances and dive to pool depths, as determined by testing/certification authorities, and to lift 150 pounds or heavier weights with assistance and/or the use of proper equipment
