Background of the Organization

Sela was created to help tackle educational inequity, racial segregation and cultural isolation -  to create a place where students would be celebrated as they begin their global citizenship journey. We are a bilingual Hebrew-English school that proudly serves and educates 280+ PreK-3 - 5th grade students here in DC. Overview

The Elementary English position is student-focused. This position is as a homeroom co-teacher in a 50/50 English/Hebrew immersion model, and candidates should be familiar and comfortable with teaching Reading, Math, Science and Social Studies, among other areas.
 

Teacher Job Responsibilities:

• Demonstrate an understanding of the developmental stages of young children and educational theories that support learning and development
• Plan and deliver effective student-based instruction on a daily basis, based on early learning standards, student assessment data, and Sela PCS’ curriculum framework
• Conduct and organize ongoing assessments of student performance using multiple assessment tools, anecdotal records, portfolios, and individualized assessments as appropriate
• Provide an inviting, exciting, learning environment using varied instructional techniques and developmentally appropriate strategies;
• Mastery/deep knowledge in instructional subject area, with an undergraduate major or minor or graduate degree in the subject;
• Evidence of student achievement growth in previous teaching roles;
• Strong desire to collaborate with other faculty and instructional leaders to discuss student work and ensure curricular coherence;
• Passion for Early Childhood and the ability to connect with and motivate, individually and collectively, a diverse group of students;
• A strong commitment to all students;
• Boundless energy and enthusiasm for working with students and other adults in the building.
• A person who believes in the critical importance of diversity in the life of a school

Teacher Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution required; Masters degree preferred
• Early Childhood teaching experience preferred
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Legally authorized to work in the USA

Compensation 
Salary for this position is dependent on the Sela PCS Salary Scale, viewed on our website at selapcs.org.
