American Energy Storage Innovations, Inc. has a full-time opening for a Senior Engineering Lab Technician in Hudson, Massachusetts.


Job Summary:


As Senior Engineering Lab Technician, this position is part of a small, fast-moving world-class team helping with the construction, operation, testing, and basic troubleshooting of integrated mechanical and electrical systems in support of the Engineering team. This position is responsible for the everyday hands-on work on system designs and electromechanical integrations, and will fabricate fixtures, prototype parts and perform rework as needed.


The Senior Engineering Lab Technician frequently contributes to expanding the lab and debugs energy storage system components ranging from small test systems to fully integrated energy storage systems. This individual will work closely with development engineering, test, and manufacturing teams. This individual must be able to work quickly and adapt to constantly evolving priorities and technical considerations, while keeping track of several task threads at the same time.


Responsibilities:

  • Assemble, rework and repair electromechanical complex sub-assemblies, PCBAs, power distribution systems, sensors, and cables for Battery Management Systems.
  • Participate in troubleshooting and diagnose root causes of failures in sub-assemblies and energy storage systems.
  • Evaluate and execute test plans. Proficiently complete test setups, test execution, test monitoring, data organization and collection, and post-test teardowns.
  • Support problem resolution of issues identified during testing, utilizing the cross-functional engineering team.
  • Plan lab equipment, workspaces, and project timelines in coordination with managers and engineers to ensure the company has the environment and equipment necessary to accomplish project goals per scheduled plan.
  • Provide lead support to assist maintaining and monitoring test experiment, collecting test data while noting and communicating unexpected results or issues.
  • Contribute to the safety of the test lab through cleanliness, appropriate safety precautions, and lab improvement/process developments.
  • May design custom test fixtures or subsystems using CAD programs such as Altium, AutoCAD, or similar.
  • Adhere to federal and state regulations.
  • Adhere to all company policies, processes, and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.
  • Predictable and reliable attendance.


Position Qualifications:

  • Associate degree in engineering technology or a minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience working in R&D Lab environment or equivalent.
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience of hands-on experience in building, testing, and troubleshooting electromechanical assemblies.
  • Ability to read and comprehend basic electrical schematics and mechanical drawings.
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience working on medium to high voltage equipment, tools, and systems.
  • Progressively responsible experience demonstrating growth/advancement in responsibility.
  • Experience with basic fabrication techniques and equipment for sheet metal and other material types.
  • Experience with PCBA rework and cable assembly.
  • Be able to multitask, and change priorities quickly as needed.
  • Ability to provide verbal and written feedback clearly and concisely to Design team members on any findings.
  • Experience with handling and working on Li-Ion batteries, battery pack design, power systems, alternative energy systems, battery management systems (BMS), MEMS, and sensors preferred.
  • Educated on common lithium-ion cell, module, and battery pack test standards preferred.
  • Experience with CAD programs such as Altium, AutoCAD or similar preferred.
  • Ability to travel and work flexible hours as needed (less than 15% domestic and international travel on average).

  • Works in a temperature-controlled office environment with occasional work in outdoor weather conditions, and in industrial environments.
  • May be required to travel to and navigate a variety of sites to fully understand material needs.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 35 pounds and/or position the body to reach items on the floor/below knee level or reach overhead.
  • Must be able to manipulate equipment for calibration and modification.
  • Ability to maintain single-task focus and situational awareness.
  • The ability to move safely over uneven terrain or in confined spaces.
  • The ability to see and respond to dangerous situations.
  • The ability to wear personal protective gear correctly most of the day.
