Job Description
Under general supervision of the Director of Event and Exhibition Technology, the Senior Audio Visual Technician is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and technical set-up of equipment for events, and the monitoring, inventory, and maintenance of this equipment. Inspects and performs emergency and limited repairs on such equipment. Performs related duties as required.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Set-up and operate equipment for events, including professional audio reinforcement systems, lighting, projectors, video monitors and computers
  2. Act as Lead AV staff, by coordinating equipment and production requirements for events, including defining event roles and supervising other on-call Technicians during the actual event.
  3. Assist with install of exhibition technology
  4. Maintains inventory of all equipment and its condition, and research and recommend new equipment. Performs minor repairs if required.
  5. Act as Museum liaison with clients
  6. Works closely with Public Programs, Strategic Projects, Exhibitions, and Curatorial staff for presentation of events.
  7. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: High School Diploma or GED.

Work Experience: Minimum of 6 years of work experience with various types of audio-visual equipment, preferably at a museum or institution of higher learning, theater or hotel.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Comprehensive audio system knowledge, including system setup, FOH and monitor mixing, mic selection and placement, signal flow, EQ and other outboard processing
  • Experience with digital mixing consoles a plus
  • Extensive experience with, and the ability to operate audio/visual equipment, including audio, video switchers, projectors, lighting consoles
  • Knowledge and ability to learn basic safety procedures for events.
  • Ability to work in a wide variety of environments, including concerts, corporate events, lectures, theatrical presentations and weddings
  • AV/IT integration a plus
  • Ability to thoroughly troubleshoot any issues
  • Ability to multi-task and work well under pressure.
  • Ability to work independently and with museum staff, students, outside clients, vendors, caterers, volunteers, and the general public.

Working Conditions:

  • Physical Demands: Manual dexterity to use tools and operate equipment. Ability to lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds. Ability to visually inspect work.
  • Special Working Condition: Must be able to work irregular hours, including evenings, for the Museums’ special and rental space events, including conference rooms. Must be willing to wear museum approved attire.

The pay rate for this position is $28.00 per hour. There are NO benefits associated with this position.
