Job Description

We're currently seeking a dedicated Braille Specialist to join our team as an Alternative Media Technician. In this role, you'll play a crucial role in enriching the educational experience for students with vision impairments.

Responsibilities include:

Crafting tactile maps and graphs as requested.
Supervising and managing the inventory of necessary supplies for daily job duties.
Demonstrating expertise in proper English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
Organizing materials efficiently to ensure they are readily available for students in a timely manner.
Maintaining detailed records of all transcriptions and appropriately labeling electronic files for future reference.
Establishing and curating a resource file to explore alternative sources of braille, large print, or electronic materials.
Collaborating closely with the Teacher of Students with Vision Impairments (TSVI) to make essential adaptations of materials for students.
Staying abreast of technological advancements in computer technology relevant to braille production and interfaces with assistive technology used by students.
Converting various materials, including books, workbooks, testing materials, and classroom assignments, into accessible formats like braille, large print, and electronic versions for students with visual impairments.

Requirements

Possess Washington State License and Certification for Braille expert role.
Submit fingerprints to the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction, before employment commencement.
