US Mathematics and STEAM Teacher

The Shipley Upper School seeks an experienced Upper School Math/STEAM teacher to work with our existing dynamic team of teachers.

Reports To: Department Chairs and Division Head
Major Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Upper School Division Head, the Upper School Mathematics/STEAM Teacher will

• Teach math at various levels in the Math Department.
• Teach computer science in the STEAM Department.
• Serve as an advisor to a group of students.
• Teach four sections, complete faculty duties, and attend faculty meetings.

The Successful Candidate must:

• Possess a deep passion for Mathematics and STEAM
• Hold a degree in mathematics, computer science, or a related field
• Create a supportive atmosphere and rigorous academic program in which all students will thrive
• Provide positive, frequent communication with students, colleagues, administration, and families
• Display professionalism in working with all stakeholders in the school.
• Show a desire to work collaboratively with all members of the Shipley Community to positively contribute to the enhancement of our learning community.
• Work collaboratively with department members to develop a cohesive curriculum that supports student growth at all levels
• Constructively solicit and use feedback in the classroom.

The Ideal Candidate will:

• Have experience teaching Math and Computer Science at the High School level. Experience with Design Thinking and other related STEAM fields is a plus.
• Possess excellent communication and writing skills
• Have experience teaching math and programming at the high school level
• Hold a clear educational philosophy consistent with the mission of the school
• Be excited to work with and appropriately challenge students at all levels
• Be willing to experiment and try new methods and approaches to challenge students
• Help students become active and independent learners who can communicate mathematical ideas with confidence.
• Actively support students' development as flexible and tenacious problem solvers.
• Demonstrate an excellent ability to differentiate instruction in order to meet all students' needs
