Job Description
Your role will be critical in designing and analyzing protection and control systems for high-voltage substations. Your work will ensure the safe and efficient operation of substation equipment, protect critical assets, and enhance the overall reliability of our electrical infrastructure.
Responsibilities:
- Develop detailed protection schemes for high-voltage substations to safeguard equipment and personnel from electrical faults.
- Design and implement control systems for substation equipment, ensuring seamless and coordinated operation within the broader power grid.
- Work with the commissioning and testing team on projects for protection and control systems, validating their performance.
- Conduct fault studies and simulations to assess the response of protection systems during various fault scenarios, identifying potential vulnerabilities and recommending improvements.
- Program and configure protective relays and control devices, ensuring accurate and reliable response to abnormal system conditions.
- Integrate intelligent electronic devices (IEDs) and automation systems into substation design, enhancing operational efficiency and remote monitoring capabilities.
- Stay updated on industry standards and ensure that protection and control designs align with applicable regulations.
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to deliver comprehensive protection and control solutions within larger utility projects.
- Provide technical support during substation operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting activities, assisting in the resolution of complex issues.
- Identify opportunities to enhance protection and control system designs, optimize settings, and implement best practices to improve system reliability and performance.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in substation protection and controls engineering, with a focus on high
-voltage applications.
- In-depth knowledge of protective relays, IEDs, control schemes, and communication protocols used in substations.
- Familiarity with power system protection practices, fault analysis, and coordination principles.
- Proficiency in using relevant software tools for protection and control system design, simulation, and configuration.
- Understanding of substation automation concepts and integration with SCADA systems.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
- Excellent communication skills to convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Possess P.E. (Professional Engineer) license or equivalent certification is preferred.
- Willingness to travel to project sites as needed.
