Job Description

 

Special Education/Resource Room Teacher

QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE

  • Degree in education, concentration in special education or field of study related to special education.
  • Must hold a valid MI teaching certificate with a K-12 endorsement in an area of special education ( endorsement(s) in : ASD, CI, EI, LD, SL, etc.).
  • Be able to manage and consult as lead in special ed department.
  • Be knowledgeable in MI state compliance- well versed in MI special ed laws.
  • Experience conducting writing IEPs, state reporting, and documentation.
  • Three or more years work experience with special education students.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Experience with Special Education compliance with MDE and Federal regulations.
  • Computer literate/technologically sound.

ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
CURRICULUM AND INSTRUCTION

Special Education

  • Provides professional development activities in the area of special education services, special needs, etc., to Special Education and General Education Staff.
  • Develops improved understanding of Special Education children’s educational needs on the part of teachers, administrators, and parents and assists Principals, School Leaders and teachers in interpreting and communicating student’s educational needs and progress to parents.

COMPLIANCE

Special Education

  • Keeps abreast of developments in Special Education curriculum, instruction, law, and regulations and disseminates information to Principals and student services staff.
  • Attend IEPs
  • Monitors and assists in coordinating Medicaid billing with appropriate schools.
  • Monitors and assures special education regulation compliance in all special education files.

Interventionist

  • Ensures implementation of a working Child Study process in client school(s).
  • Works with Title I Coordinators to review and create action plans regarding the intervention programs at each client school.

OTHER

  • Applies positive customer service to the role and is perceived as a team member by staff and school employees.
  • Maintains a high level of confidentiality concerning sensitive information.
  • Remains competent and current through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development courses, and attending training and /or courses as required by the supervisor.
  • Assists with other duties upon request and approval of the Chief Executive Officer and Director of School Services.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $42.00-50.00 per hour (years of experience and credentials determine salary/hourly rate)

COVID-19 considerations:
DIC will provide necessary PPE when needed and will also conform to the policy within the location/school where services will be provided.
