POSITION SUMMARY: The primary responsibility of the Plant Engineer is to improve the efficiency, safety, and quality of the manufacturing and facilities. The plant engineer develops, proposes and implements capital and major repair projects to improve operation and/or reduce the cost of operations. The plant engineer assists the maintenance team leaders in the repair, maintenance and upgrading of all manufacturing systems including changes and improvements in maintenance and repair methods. The Plant Engineer also has the responsibility for meeting, or exceeding established key results for costs, safety, sanitation, regulatory compliance and organizational development (accountability).

The Plant Engineer reports directly to the Facility Manager, and has daily contact with maintenance, production supervision, procurement, corporate engineering, and other supervisory and engineering staff members. Manages and maintains facility efficiency and flow. Manages and coordinates facility based projects. Assists in facility design and various engineering tasks associated with the facility planning, equipment planning, cost evaluations, design, process optimization, facility modifications and provides technical expertise on various technical standards and engineering requirements by performing the following duties:

RESPONSIBILITES / DUTIES: Employees must be able to perform the essential functions of the job. The essential functions of the position include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Review daily manufacturing operation with respect to overall efficiency, product requirement, and established production schedules.
  • Project Management duties involving Electrical & Power to include 480V, 3phase, distribution and drive systems.
  • Oversee PLC programming and networking between manufacturing/production equipment.
  • Direct the activities of the plant maintenance team leader, Maintenance Planner and the Project Engineer to ensure coordination of proper priorities.
  • Review shutdown maintenance and PM schedules to assure that repairs and PM’s are done effectively.
  • Develop and implement plans to improve substandard performance on equipment.
  • Determine the long range needs of the department and develop plans that implement solutions.
  • Maintains and monitors functioning and purchasing of equipment necessary to support operation requirements.
  • Maintains an understanding of production equipment as to ensure current knowledge of equipment performance for determining facilities and production operations are running at optimal levels.
  • Provides engineering support to Operations & helps to ensure a safe workplace without risk to health.
  • Maintains safety on each job project in accordance with approved safety rules and regulations to include conducting safety inspections and observations.
  • Examines and approves engineering and architectural drawings and design computations for facilities to ensure compliance with sound engineering practices and established standards, codes, and regulations.
  • Estimates cost of projects, writes contracts and specifications for labor, materials and equipment for construction projects, and secures bids from contractors.
  • Inspects existing facilities to ascertain their condition and prepares reports depicting the condition, deficiencies observed, designs necessary for repairs, and estimated cost of repairs.
  • Leadership and Support: Communicate with other plant leaders and support their initiatives. Facilitate maintenance ownership by the line organization through integration training, mentoring and supervision.
  • Asset Utilization: lead the day to day allocation of resources to work. Evaluate the effectiveness and take actions on results and findings.
  • Advisor: Assist facility leadership with the development of short and long-term preventative maintenance objectives, targets, strategies, and measures that prioritize areas that need attention. Analyze severity and prioritize equipment issues to minimize plant down times as well as maximize plant productivity.
  • Development: Ensure the development, improvement of training systems to meet facility needs. Ensure a system is in place for the facility to sustain and improve maintenance performance. Utilize development plans to grow the performance and knowledge of the maintenance staff.
  • Capital and Expense Budgets: manage and develop the overall capital budgets emphasis on cost and productivity improvement initiative. Manage the expense budget assigned to the department. Develop a 3-5 year capital plan.

EDUCATION/SPECIAL SKILLS/EXPERIENCE/TRAINING:

  • Education/Work Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or other related engineering field, from an accredited college/university
  • 7-10+ years in a manufacturing environment
  • Electrical experience required
  • Experience leading teams and initiatives
  • Language Ability: English
  • Math Ability: Proficient in reading and working with CAD drawings
  • Reasoning Ability: Must be able to interface with all levels of staff in a professional and collaborative manner. Strong project management skills and the ability to effectively prioritize projects
  • Computer Skills: Proficient use of Microsoft Office to include but not limited to Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc. Working knowledge of ERP systems and CMMS systems
  • Travel Requirements: Ability to travel as required but expected to be approximately ten (10%) percent of the time

Required

Bachelors or better in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
