Description

SCOPE

The Assistant Operations Manager is responsible for general supervision of all phases of fuel operations including but not limited to production, quality control, maintenance, inventories, receiving, deliveries, billing and customer satisfaction. Additional responsibilities include facility and physical plant up-keep. In addition, the Assistant Manager will be responsible for input into annual budget planning and execution (in the near future). They will work closely with the Fuel Operations Manager, Production, Sales and Marketing teams to increase productivity and profitability within the operations of Christensen Inc. This person must have experience including best practices in both managerial, operational platforms and Transportation Logistics. The Assistant Manager will have the same authority as the Fuel Manager for direct reports. The Assistant Manager reports and analyzes financial standing to the Fuel Operations Manager weekly, as well as the Regional Fuel Manager.

Significant Activities and Responsibilities
  • Assist the manager by providing leadership for the successful day-to-day operation of the facility.
  • Work closely with quality personnel to review and input data to determine trends and areas of improvement.
  • Review established schedules for all drivers to insure operating at the highest efficiency possible.
  • Coordinate the training of all personnel on rack loading procedures at established terminals.
  • Monitor operation expenses and research ways to reduce costs while maintaining product quality.
  • Work closely with the Fuel Operations Manager to ensure all members of the team are aware of safety policies to ensure a safe workplace for all employees.
  • Maintain and support a superior safety and housekeeping program, including all timely communication initiatives.
  • Assist the manager in analyzing workforce requirements.
  • Provide coaching and guidance to all site employees.
  • Encourage and promote operating in a continuous improvement environment.
  • Assist the manager to remove production constraints; recommend allocating human and equipment resources to attain all established goals.
  • Assist the manager to remove waste and constraints from the process to improve efficiencies and enhance productivity along with continued customer service standards.
  • Recruit and retain quality drivers

Qualifications
  • Previous experience/strong understanding of budgeting/expense management with a basic understanding of financial and accounting practices.
  • Computer skills including the ability to prepare spreadsheets and use Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, Power Point and/or Access) to analyze data and trends.
  • Previous experience/broad understanding of safety systems and enforcement of safety rules and policies.
  • Demonstrated strong leadership, team building and basic coaching skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate people, assess and develop employee skills.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the principles and Core Values of Christensen INC.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills, with the ability to balance production and maintenance needs.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and listening ability.
  • A strong ability to be adaptable and flexible.
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills.
  • Knowledge of FMCSA regulations as they pertain to transporting hazardous materials.
  • Ability to work with teams and lead decision-making processes in a team environment.
  • Ability to lead and provide guidance to drivers during assigned shift
  • This position requires to be on call 24/7/365 and first responder for all incidents.
