Photo Studio Manager 


The Photo Production Manager oversees and coordinates the photo production process at StoreBound. From pre-production coordination, through delivery and organization of final assets, the Photo Production Manager is a hands-on leader who implements efficient workflows, manages expectations and ensures the timely delivery of high-quality projects.

 

The Photo Production Manager reports to the Associate Creative Director, directing the photo team and participating in creative production on set. Anticipating and managing risks, training, onboarding freelancers or additional team members, and maintaining a positive shooting environment are essential responsibilities.

 

Creative Production

  • Collaborate with the Associate Creative Director and/or Design Lead and team for high-quality execution.
  • Direct photo team, ensuring clarity and creativity on set.
  • Identify and mitigate risks to project timelines proactively.
  • Maintain strong partnerships across departments.
  • Implement workflows for smooth production and on-time delivery.
  • Train and onboard new team members and freelancers.
  • Manage multiple projects efficiently under tight deadlines.
  • Coordinate with Marketing, Design, Sales, and PD teams for project needs.

Team Management

  • Lead photo team, fostering professional relationships.
  • Manage Photographer's and freelancers' performance.
  • Schedule work and shoots for maximum productivity.
  • Oversee studio processes for long-term growth.
  • Drive continuous improvement in tools and processes.

Photo Workflow

  • Develop strategic plans for operational efficiency.
  • Manage post-production workflow effectively.
  • Coordinate with the Retouching team for workload estimation and delivery of final retouched images.
  • Establish file management processes and photo database maintenance.
  • Anticipate the evolution of the photo department with brand growth.

Equipment, Resource & Budget Management

  • Manage expense reporting for the photo team.
  • Maintain and repair photography equipment with a Staff Photographer.
  • Manage inventory of props, backgrounds, and lighting equipment.
  • Oversee freelance retouching talent for quality and timeliness.
  • Stay updated on photography trends and recommend upgrades.

Other tasks and responsibilities

Management will assign additional responsibilities and tasks as needed.


Skills for the Role:

  • Self-Starting and Adaptability
    • Demonstrates initiative, adaptability, and flexibility in approach
  • Experience
    • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in professional digital photography, retail photo studio operations, or related field.
  • Cross-Functional Leadership:
    • Proficient in team management and fostering strong partnerships with the Production, Retouching, Creative, Styling, and Sample Management teams.
  • Productivity and Problem-Solving
    • Productivity-focused with a track record of managing multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines.
    • Quick problem solver capable of anticipating and resolving issues effectively.
  • Technical Proficiency
    • Advanced knowledge of Photo Digital Tech processes, workflows, and systems including Mac OS, Capture One Pro, Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Excel, and other file management and processing tools.
    • Expertise in photographic techniques such as studio lighting, equipment, gear, and composition. 
  • Communication Skills:
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with both creative and technical teams.
    • Strong interpersonal skills to maintain professional relationships across departments.
  • Passion for Continuous Improvement:
    • Passionate about continuous improvement, adept at incorporating changes to tools and processes to drive optimal results.
    • Capable of developing both scrappy solutions and long-term, scalable tools as needed. 
  • Learning and Expertise:
    • Enjoys learning new tools and workflows, quickly becoming a subject matter expert.
    • Acts as a go-to resource for process decisions, leveraging deep understanding and expertise.
