Momentum Academy is a public charter school district with four campuses in St. Louis City, serving scholars in grades PK-8. Role
Counseling at Momentum Academy is designed to promote the social growth, emotional development, and academic progress of every student. Counseling services include classroom visitations, small group discussions, special programs, and some individual counseling on a short-term basis.
Essential Responsibilities and Competencies
- Providing emotional and behavioral support to students
- Services include anger management training, social skills education, small group facilitation, one-on-one therapeutic support, resource referral and case management
- Consults with teachers, staff and parents regarding meeting the developmental needs of students.
- Refer students as needed to appropriate community resources in consultation with their parents.
- Conducts counseling activities in the classroom in conjunction with administration and teachers.
- Responds to crisis situations when appropriate.
- Serves as a support facilitator for Special Ed and 504 team team meetings.
- Works collaboratively with District Social Workers and outside agencies.
- Follows the Missouri Comprehensive School Counseling Program.
- Provide direct support to schools utilizing SEL strategies
- Reviews students immunization records for compliance with state law; refers for follow-up when needed.
Education/Certification Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in education, counseling or similar degree (Master’s Degree preferred)
- Valid Counseling certificate from the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (Secondary Certification required, K-12 Certification preferred)
Qualifications
- 1-3 years of experience is required
- Prior school counseling experience, or experience working with school-age children is preferred
- Experience in promoting social and emotional learning
- Experience in program development, oversight and growth
- Must have excellent human relations skills.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal & written) and ability to work from written or oral instructions under limited supervision are required.
- Strong organizational skills, accuracy, and self-motivation are required.
- The ability to effectively prioritize work and handle multiple tasks simultaneously while meeting deadlines is required.
- Strong word processing, data entry, spreadsheet and database skills are required, experience with student data management databases (SIS, Infinite Campus, etc.) is preferred.
- The ability to present information and respond to questions from parents and school staff in a positive, professional manner is required.
- The ability to solve problems and respond to situations in a calm, caring manner is required.
- The ability to remain flexible & positive with the demands of the job without losing sight of the mission, task, or assignment is required.
- The ability to work as a team player, communicate and collaborate with building and district staff is required.

Schedule
This role will be effective July 1, 2024. This role is a 12-month position. Teachers and staff are expected to be present for core hours of 7:15AM to 4:00PM during the school year from August to May. June and July will consist of preparation for the upcoming school with flexibility.
