Position Summary:


We are seeking a dynamic Director, Publications & Scientific Communications to lead our publications & scientific communications efforts here at ACLEYRIN. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of developing and operationalizing the Publications & Data Submission Strategy, Integrated Evidence Generation Plan, and creation of relevant policies/ways of working for the publications & scientific communications function and appropriate cross-functional partners. A proven track record of successfully orchestrating the activities & engagement of cross-functional teams in the development and execution of publication plans across an asset’s lifecycle. The Director will play a critical role in shaping the publications & scientific communications function within ACELYRIN, as well as the scientific narrative and data dissemination plan to key stakeholders, including healthcare professionals, researchers, and regulatory agencies.


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:


  • Lead the Publications & Scientific Communications function, responsible developing the integrated publication strategy and plans for global clinical studies from Phase I (in humans studies) and non-clinical trial sources including HEOR, Epidemiology, RWE, and Payer so that the integrated publication strategy is consistently applied across all study designs, and clear and supportable scientific data are communicated to internal partners and external customers (regulatory authorities, payers, physicians and patients)
  • Provide leadership and guidance to internal partners during development of asset/TA strategic plans and develop processes & procedures related to publications & scientific communications
  • Strong leadership and management skill, with the ability to develop a high-performing team in a matrixed environment.
  • Building advocacy for the publications & scientific communications function through the establishment of effective relationships with key stakeholders across the organization
  • Serve as the publications expert who strategically supports the medical and scientific objectives of all ACELYRIN programs.
  • Establish and maintain collaborative business partnerships with clinical, medical affairs, biostats/data management, new product planning, and program leads to align on medical communications strategy across all ACELYRIN programs
  • Ensure appropriate tracking and execution of the publications tactical and medical communication plan in accordance with established priorities and asset/corporate goals
  • Lead the development and execution of the Scientific Data Dissemination & Publication Plan; Develop and execute ambitious short-term and long-term medical strategies, as key elements of the Integrated Data Generation plan and eventual Brand Plan.
  • Develop best practices within ACELYRIN to streamline communications and optimize workflow to support each asset’s presence at relevant national/international/regional congresses.
  • Provide non-promotional scientific, educational, and research direction and support for all of ACELYRIN’s pipeline assets.
  • Provide medical communications input to brand teams regarding strategy, tactics, and development of claims.
  • Alongside the Head of Medical Affairs, build and lead a team of publications & scientific communications (agency and/or internal) to help bring transformative therapies to patients with unmet medical needs
  • Develop and/or advise on the update of core communication strategic tools: i.e. the scientific platform, lexicon, FAQs, etc.
  • Ensure key data is strategically aligned with all scientific communication messages, elements from other internal guidance and resource documents for all publications, and that the conclusions are supported by data.
  • Responsible for the development of medical education initiatives, including live education programs, congress symposia, online education, multichannel HCP education, field medical tools, slide decks, and medical booth resources.
  • Provide input into Clinical studies/Investigator-Sponsored studies/Database studies, including disease and product registries to support integrated evidence generation plan, including real-world evidence.
  • Attend key international and national medical conferences to support medical communications and overall medical affairs activities.
  • Participate in budget forecasting and long-range planning for strategic growth within the department.
  • Understand the evolving publications landscape through engagement with and participation in professional societies (e.g., ISMPP), and ensure that all ACELYRIN policies/ways of working are in alignment with current guidance within the scientific publications environment, good publication practices, Sunshine Act/PhRMA Code of Conduct, ICMJE, GPP4, and other global guidelines relevant to publications, scientific data communication, and transparency standards.
  • Support high impact medical activities, such as advisory boards, congress symposia and medical research projects


Qualifications and Skills Required:


  • Doctorate (Ph.D., MD, PharmD) and 8-10 years of publication planning, writing, medical affairs, medical communications, clinical or medical information experience or a Master's degree and 10+ years of publication planning, writing, medical affairs, medical communications, clinical or medical information experience
  • Relevant therapeutic area expertise (Immunology/Rheumatology/Dermatology) and existing external expert network is a strong advantage, but not required.
  • Clear understanding of current publication environment, good publication practices, Sunshine Act/Pharma Code of Conduct, ICMJE, GPP4, and other global guidelines related to publications, scientific data communication, and transparency standards.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills (written, verbal, and presentation) and organizational, time management, and project management/planning skills
  • Experience leading critical functional or cross-functional initiatives
  • Track record of successfully developing peer-reviewed publications is required including direct development of manuscripts, abstracts and other materials development as well as significant editorial capabilities.
  • Ability to interpret and critique scientific and medical literature with respect to scientific and business implications. Established skill in the analysis, communication, and presentation of complex scientific and medical data to a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of industry guidelines pertaining to data dissemination (e.g., CONSORT, ICMJE, GPPs) and interactions with health care providers (e.g., PhRMA).
  • Ability to collaborate with external Key Opinion Leaders on data dissemination strategies in a credible, responsive, and scientific manner.
  • Robust knowledge of regulations and practices related to industry interactions with healthcare professionals
  • Experience partnering with both regional/country and global functions and leadership
  • Creative problem-solver with strong business acumen and ability to assess competitive landscape.
  • 10-25% travel required, Including international travel.
