Job Description

Summary/Purpose

The Admissions Counselor is responsible for creating a supportive and welcoming environment for prospective students and managing all aspects of the admissions process. Additionally, this position is responsible for assisting in student recruitment efforts.

Essential Functions

  1. Analyzes qualifications of prospective students utilizing established admissions standards, guidelines and criteria. This includes evaluating reentry students and monitoring class capacities.
  2. Corresponds with prospective students, applicants, alumni, guidance counselors and others seeking information on admissions standards, academic and non-academic programs and student activities.
  3. Arranges and conducts on-campus individual interviews with students.
  4. Prepares for and participates in group information sessions for students, parents and community partners.
  5. Organize, maintain, and audit all student admission files, required forms and documentation and log information into the student database.
  6. Maintains appropriate follow up and communication with prospective students regarding the status of their applications for admissions. Directs, implements, and monitors computerized enrollment management system.
  7. Counsels enrolling students on barriers, career choices, and concerns by providing resources and/or input that encourages student retention and success in the program.
  8. Tracks and reports enrollment data consistent with the reporting needs of internal and external stakeholders; prepares documentation to be shared across the organization.
  9. Participates in local and regional admission or school counseling associations to build solid working relationships and keep abreast of trends and work in this area.
  10. Serves as the backup proctor for entrance exams; coordinates and assists with activities on special projects as assigned to accomplish established objectives and enrollment goals.
  11. Participates in new student orientation for all programs.
  12. Develop and maintain strong working relationships with schools, feeder programs and community organizations to create partnerships that yield success, predictable results and credibility.
  13. Conduct Outreach to secondary schools and provided recruitment presentations to candidates.
  14. Conduct follow-up recruitment initiatives for inquiries to the institution
  15. Organize and conduct recruitment initiatives.
  16. Respond to student inquiries from front desk, recruitment events and outside organizations.

  6. Excellent communication skills (oral, written, presentation, etc.)
  7. High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (especially Microsoft Excel).
  8. Data management and entry skills; experience with CampusVue a plus.
  9. Demonstrated ability to work with and communicate to diverse adult students in non-traditional learning environment.
  10. Demonstrated ability to problem-solve and be proactive in addressing areas of concern.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time non-exempt position under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). It is eligible for overtime. Hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. This position may require occasional evening or weekend work.

Travel

This position requires limited travel. Less than 5% each year.

Required Education & Experience

  1. Experience working in a professional diverse office environment.
  2. Experience with data management and entry; experience with CampusVue a plus.
  3. A minimum of 2 years of experience in a role requiring a high degree of organizational, Communication and interpersonal skills.
  4. Associate’s degree or higher.

Preferred Education & Experience

  1. Bachelor’s degree in education, counseling or related field preferred.
  2. Experience in higher education administration, High-level Customer Service skills, Admissions, and/or Counseling.
