Job Description: RN Unit Manager

Position Overview:
As an RN Unit Manager, your primary responsibility will be to oversee and coordinate the daily operations of a nursing unit within a healthcare facility. You will manage a team of registered nurses (RNs), licensed practical nurses (LPNs), and certified nursing assistants (CNAs) to ensure the highest quality of patient care is delivered in accordance with established policies, procedures, and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Leadership and Supervision:
- Provide effective leadership and direction to the nursing team, ensuring adherence to best practices and quality standards.
- Assign and delegate nursing staff responsibilities based on skill levels and patient needs.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations, recognizing exceptional performance and addressing performance issues through coaching, counseling, and disciplinary actions.
- Collaborate with other members of the healthcare team to promote interdisciplinary cooperation and coordination of care.

2. Care Delivery and Patient Management:
- Assess patient needs and create individualized care plans in collaboration with the interdisciplinary care team.
- Supervise and coordinate the provision of nursing care, ensuring safe, efficient, and compassionate delivery.
- Monitor patient outcomes and satisfaction, making appropriate interventions and adjustments to the care plan as needed.
- Provide direct patient care when necessary, demonstrating clinical expertise and maintaining a supportive presence for patients and their families.

3. Compliance and Quality Management:
- Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory requirements and standards, including but not limited to state nursing regulations, Joint Commission accreditation, and internal policies.
- Implement and monitor quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes, safety, and satisfaction.
- Participate in root cause analyses and incident investigations, implementing corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
- Keep abreast of best practices and industry trends, continuously improving nursing practices and knowledge base.

4. Staff Development and Education:
- Provide orientation, training, and continuing education for nursing staff, fostering their professional growth and development.
- Identify educational needs and coordinate relevant training programs, workshops, and seminars for the nursing team.
- Promote a culture of learning and critical thinking, encouraging nurses to expand their skills and knowledge.

Qualifications and Requirements:
- A valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of employment.
- Proven experience working as an RN in acute or long-term care settings.
- Previous leadership or management experience is preferable.
- Strong clinical skills, with expertise in patient assessment, care planning, and administration of nursing interventions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
- Proficiency in using healthcare information systems and electronic medical records.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks, handle multiple responsibilities, and make quick, sound decisions.
- Knowledge of relevant legal, regulatory, and ethical standards in nursing.
- Ability to remain calm in high-stress situations and maintain composure during emergencies.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, based on unit needs.
