Chief Property Accounting Officer

The Chief Property Accounting Officer (CAO) is a key member of the Asset Living management team. This position reports to the CFO and is responsible for the oversight of Asset Living's Property Accounting. The CAO provides strategic leadership, counsel, and direction to ensure exceptional client service. Additionally, this position supports strategic growth opportunities, monitors performance, and works closely with the CFO to develop efficiencies and alignment with Asset Living's vision, mission, and values.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Work with the CFO to fulfill broad-reaching strategic implementation of proactive programs, operational improvements, communication, and other general management responsibilities.
  • Develop and execute operating plans
  • Track metrics and success criteria, including accurate and timely delivery of financial statements.
  • Review, analyze, and address gaps in service excellence, policies, and procedures; proactively identify issues and implement solutions.
  • Integrate the property accounting of acquisitions.
  • Streamline practices for property financial reporting, ensuring proper communication with clients and operations team members.
  • Compare new technologies to traditional methods and utilize best-in-class technology to drive the business forward.
  • Build and maintain a knowledgeable and skilled team who execute in compliance with Asset Living's vision, mission, and values.
  • Lead the teammate development processes and succession planning through performance management, mentoring, coaching, training, and modeling appropriate leadership behaviors.
  • Evaluate the team regularly and only employ A players who share the same vision, ethics, and performance expectations.
  • Hold team accountable for meeting and exceeding benchmarked performance.
  • Responsible for communicating a plan of resolution when service levels are not achieved.
  • Establish a working relationship with other departments (Operations, Legal, HR, Treasury, etc.) to achieve operational goals.
  • Maintain knowledge of changes to accounting and tax standards and implement changes as necessary.
  • Some travel required.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • CPA required.
  • Minimum of 15 years of progressive accounting experience required.
  • Experience in supervising a team of accountants.
  • Real estate industry experience preferred.
  • Third-party property management experience preferred; multi-site, real estate platform, or similar experience preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
