Primary Function: Under the direction of the Supervisor, provides students with an attractive, safe, and natural environment in which to learn.


Responsibilities/Duties

  • Performs minor carpentry duties such as repairs such as ceilings, bathroom partitions, shelves, braces, doors, and windows; install pencil sharpeners, chalkboards, dry erase boards, cubbies, toilet paper holders, paper towel and soap dispensers, flag holders, etc.
  • Perform minor plumbing duties such as the installation and repairs of faucets, valves, drains, traps, safety valve, water filters and pipe fittings.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and document task and results as defined by the position task list
  • Perform minor flooring and wall repairs.
  • Perform painting interior surfaces
  • Perform minor electrical duties such as the replacement or repair of light bulbs and ballasts, exit lights, fuses, switches, hand dryers, cords and plugs.
  • Clean area and equipment
  • Evaluates and prioritizes maintenance needs, building deficiencies and emergency needs and communicate these to the Facilities Director
  • Provide assistance to campus departments. Communicate and collaborate with campus/department staff to enhance service delivery and customer satisfaction.
  • Inspect building interior and exterior, playground equipment and grounds performance, maintenance and minor repairs
  • Detect and reports needs of major repair on building structure and their systems including lockers, furniture and equipment
  • Assist with hedging and trimming bushes of school grounds
  • Move, install, Assemble and Repair all school furniture and playground equipment as needed
  • Set up of event needs
  • Assist with Facility Coordinator in cleaning up of the cafeteria when needed.
  • Comply with policies established by federal and state law including but not limited to State Board of Education and local policy.
  • Follows established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting and climbing. Operates equipment and use tools according to established safety procedures.
  • Corrects unsafe conditions in the work area and promptly reports any conditions that are not immediately correctable to the Facility Director.

    Knowledge and Abilities

    Knowledge of:

    • Methods, practices, and safety precautions of the skilled trades
    • Basic carpentry, electrical systems, plumbing and painting
    • Oral and written communication skills
    • Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy
    • Operation of a computer and assigned software

    Ability to:

    • Use ladders, scaffolding, lifts, augers, power saws, power drills, hand tools, compressors, sprayers, welder, torches, heavy equipment
    • Read and interpret blueprints and manuals
    • Perform routine building and grounds maintenance work
    • Ability to properly use and care for equipment
    • Prioritize and organize work responsibilities and delegate appropriate departmental tasks effectively
    • Work independently with little direction
    • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
    • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others
    • Maintain regular and consistent attendance
    • Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action

    Education/Licenses/Experience: High school diploma or equivalent and three years of related experience. Valid Texas driver's license.

    Working Conditions

    Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress.

    Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Frequent walking, standing, lifting up to 50 pounds, bending/stooping, reaching, pushing/pulling, and twisting; repetitive hand motions for prolonged periods; operate hand and power tools applicable to trade; occasionally work irregular hours and prolonged hours; respond to after-hours emergency calls as needed.

    Physical Conditions - work outside in non-climate-controlled weather conditions or inside in climate-controlled conditions; exposure to extreme temperature changes (cold to hot), excessive fumes, toxic chemicals, loud noises, and working around moving objects or vehicles; walking on slippery or uneven surfaces, ladders, and scaffolding.

    Lifting/carrying - frequent reaching; frequent lifting and carrying up to 10 lbs. From floor to chest and occasionally up to 10 lbs overhead; push or pull over 50 lbs. occasionally.
