Adult Residential Specialist Pay Range:

Compensation is based on the level and requirements of the role. Salary within our ranges may also be determined by your education and experience as required by the role, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. Typically, new team members join at the minimum to mid salary range.

Salary: $16.59 - $24.89 DOE

Adult Residential Specialist Summary: The Adult Residential Specialist is responsible for assisting in the care and treatment of Phoenix Place residents (residential, respite and hold), including life skills training and limited psycho-social interventions. The Specialist performs a wide variety of paraprofessional duties to assist in delivering services to the mentally ill adults. Facilitates resident cooking, cleaning, and general maintenance duties. May be assigned in certain settings to administer medications and perform basic nursing duties under the supervision of the Registered Nurse (Division 47 of the Nurse Practice Act).

Adult Residential Specialist Education: Must meet Oregon State (OARS) requirements and MHACBO certification as a "Qualified Mental Health Associate (QMHA)," meeting one of the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a behavioral science field
  • A combination of at least three years relevant work, education, training, or experience.

Adult Residential Specialist Experience: Experience to demonstrate the competencies to identify precipitating events:

  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • understand mental health assessment, treatment, and service terminology and apply each of these concepts.
  • Implement skills development strategies, and identify, implement, and coordinate the services and supports identified in an ISSP.
  • Preferred experience: Previous experience working with adults diagnosed with mental illness or any disability group preferred

Adult Residential Specialist Responsibilities:

  • Read and understand each resident’s individual service plan. The service plan will describe what basic case management or skills training services will be provided to residents. These services include but are not limited to: banking, personal shopping, cooking, cleaning, laundry, arrange and accompany to mental health and physical health provider appointments, and assists residents to interface with other social service agencies.
  • May be assigned to assume a temporary lead role in the absence of the Team Lead or at the discretion of the Adult Services Residential Program Administrator, Program Manager, or Department Director.
  • Participate with the health care team in selecting appropriate candidates for residence.
  • Provides discharge planning for residential and respite clients.
  • Completes admission and/or discharge process and paperwork for residential, respite and hold clients.
  • Administer medications and performs basic nursing duties as prescribed by the physician and assigned by the Registered Nurse according to OAR 851-047-000.
  • Participate in Residential Service Planning and acts as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team.
  • Provide therapeutic interventions with residents as prescribed by the Residential Service Plan.
  • Observe and monitor residents, and document accordingly in the resident’s record as prescribed by the Residential Service Plan.
  • Interacts with other members of the health care team.
  • Directs residents and actively participates in facility meal preparation, cleaning, laundry, and general maintenance duties.
  • Assist residents in activities of daily living, to include bathing, grooming, hygiene, laundry, cooking, cleaning, and general health.
  • Plan, coordinate and supervise recreation activities and outings for residents.
  • Transport, accompany and actively supervise residents as necessary or assigned.
  • Monitor safety and security of the environment. May lead and/or assist in management of behavioral emergencies.
  • Audit resident charts, documents services and activities in each resident’s electronic health record according to the requirements outlined below.
  • Answer telephones.
  • Inform Supervisor or Program Administrator of resident and facility needs and concerns.
  • Maintain positive work environment and working relationships with Phoenix Place peers, medical and rehabilitation staff.
  • Attend and actively participate in general staff meetings.
  • Maintain timely, complete written records of resident contacts, attendance and other documentation required by state and county regulations for residential care.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Valid Oregon driver’s license, insurable driving record. Personal automobile insurance is required if clients are transported, or any agency business is conducted by the employee using his/her personal vehicle. Must meet the requirements to become MHACBO QMHA Certified. Certification must be maintained for the length of employment. Must maintain CPR/First Aid certification.
