Saw Operator Position Summary:

The Saw Operator/Material handler is responsible for the set-up, adjustment, and operation of our horizontal bandsaw. This position entails attention to detail in all facets of the task to include material certification and inventory adjustment. Our Saw Operator pride themselves maintaining precision sawing tolerances on all material types and bar items produced using our equipment. This position requires inventory control of all materials and material certifications through our software system. This includes control and of all recyclable materials.

Saw Operator Duties and Responsibilities:

The representative duties of this job are described below. Related details and additional miscellaneous duties may not be described but may be required in the performance of this job.

  • Sawing Material:
    • Use computer-based saw to cut various types of materials
    • Inspect material for damage and proper thickness
    • Arrange sawing sequences for optimum material usage
    • Arrange cut metal in totes or pallets for manufacturing
  • Saw Maintenance:
    • Determine and install proper blade size based on material type and size
    • Check and replenish fluid for lubrication system
    • Check and remove chips from collection system if necessary
    • Know Your Saw: Recognize operating irregularities and machine malfunctions
    • Notify supervision and/or makes necessary adjustments or repairs
  • Instruments/Equipment:
    • Use calipers, measuring tapes, scales, and other measuring devices to maintain specifications and tolerances
    • Load saw with material by lifting or using forklift
  • Technology:
    • Utilize computer software to understand and follow through with work orders
    • Operate ERP system to log job completion and material certifications

Saw Operator Qualifications and Requirements:

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform/possess each essential duty satisfactorily, both as an individual and as a team member.

  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Ability to report to work as required.
  • Adapt to training and then operate a variety of equipment (Ex. forklifts, cut-off saws, etc.).
  • Forklift experience and certification is a plus.
  • Ability to perform basic math functions.
  • Basic computer skills are required.
  • Ability to read and use measuring equipment such as tape measures, micrometers, and Digital calipers.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 70 pounds.
  • The employee frequently is required to work with their hands and be able to be on their feet for long periods of time.
  • Must read and write English

6:30-2:30 Mon – Fri.
