Job Description

Job Summary

The job duties of an injection molding operator include working to set up and operate machines that shape plastic or other materials through a process called injection molding. Your responsibilities involve working in a manufacturing setting and preparing your machine for each production run.

Primary Job Functions

  • Utilizes numerically controlled injection molding machine equipment to perform injection molding operations on various types of plastic resin materials.
  • Apply basic math and computer skills.
  • Set-up and operate job relate equipment including molding machines, lift trucks and overhead cranes. Set-up molds and their associated connections, which may include electrical hook-up, cooling waterline connections.
  • Establish and follow set-up sheet and loading process parameters.
  • Diagnose and correct problems in set-up and operations of molds, presses, and other equipment.
  • Establish the parameters for injection molding machine to maintain quality and maximum product output. Monitor process and cycle times.
  • Assist and work with injection molding machine operators as needed.
  • Operate one or more injection molding machines and auxiliary equipment in accordance with operator instruction sheets and established procedures to meet cycle time and quality standards.
  • Works from and in accordance with job specifications and design criteria including but not limited to verbal instructions. Follow detailed instructions and specification for each job order. Be accountable for all job parts you produce.
  • Identify when parts are not produced properly or when machines are not running properly and alert your supervisor.
  • Maintain accurate production and scrap records.
  • Count, package, and label shipment boxes as directed in the job order work instructions.
  • Use scales for counting parts and weighing boxes to ship.
  • Responsible for maintaining an organized and clean work area.
  • Wear personal protective equipment (safety glasses) and follow company safety policy and procedures.
  • Follow instructions and take directions from supervisor and process technicians when needed.
  • Job may occasionally require use of precision measuring instruments; maintains accurate dimensional tolerances based upon job specification.
  • Possesses and maintains thorough knowledge of industry, machinery, and techniques.
  • Possesses and maintains thorough knowledge of all applicable safety regulations and considerations.
  • Other tasks that may be assigned by supervisor

Education and Training

High school diploma or equivalent required

Experience

  • Minimum 2-years’ related experience
  • Experience with injection molding - set-up and processing.
  • Experience with injection molding, plastic processing, and system operation.
  • Experience with micrometer, calipers and other measurement tools
  • Experience with different plastic materials, ability to operate overhead crane, and to operate hi-lo
  • Ability to read prints

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Basic math skills
  • Knowledge in the injection molding process validations and quality control.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Basic computer skills, comprehensive math and reading skills.
  • Ability to assemble and disassemble equipment as needed.
  • Demonstrated basic mechanical and electrical knowledge and hands-on technical skills
  • Knowledge of molds and bases and ability to setup molds and bases in press
  • Knowledge and ability to operate injection molding press, and use proprietary Process Engine and process job for part run
  • Work well with others
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Follow company policy and guidelines

Working Environment / Physical Demands

  • This position requires the ability to stand, stoop, and bend for a minimum of 8 hours per day.
  • This position requires the manual dexterity sufficient to operate common manufacturing machinery and hand tools.
  • Must speak clearly using the English language to accurately convey information and be able to hear at normal speaking levels.
  • Must be able to visually read the work instructions, gages, and monitors required to complete daily tasks.
  • Regularly required to lift up to 25 pounds, frequently required to lift up to 50 pounds and occasionally required to lift up to 100 pounds.

Saftey Requirements

  • Required to observe all safety standards and rules.
  • Required to report all injuries to his/her supervisor and Human Resources within 24 hours.
  • Personal protection equipment must be worn as required by the job.
