Job Description
Job Title:Justice Program CoordinatorReports to:Justice Program DirectorFLSA Status:Non-Exempt
Job Purpose:

The Program Coordinator plays an important role in supporting the day-to-day continuity of Justice program operations. This individual is responsible for ensuring efficient and effective coordination of logistics for the Justice Team – which includes AFJ’s federal courts, state courts, and building the bench initiatives – and will assist the Program Director with administrative, logistical, and strategic initiatives for the team. Additionally, this position will work closely with the team’s Directors and others across AFJ to ensure effective coordination of projects, grants, contracts, and invoices.

Duties and Responsibilities:
 
  • Assists Justice Program Director with developing and implementing operational systems to support team strategy and management like annual plans, standard operating procedures, job descriptions, work-flow charts, etc.
  • Serves as the operations and administrative backbone of the team, including, but not limited to tracking expenses and budget; scheduling, calendar management, and logistics for meetings; and data maintenance in systems such as EveryAction, Excel, and others with minimal oversight
  • Coordinates across Justice team staff to ensure consistent collection and reporting of data on weekly updates, project statuses, external meetings, and progress toward team’s key performance indicators
  • Supports Justice staff to ensure team databases, including information trackers on judicial nominations and legislation as well as CRM, are up to date and effective in pulling information for reports to internal and external audiences (board, funders, coalition partners, etc.)
  • Supports Justice team staff in building and maintaining relationships with nonprofits, funders, and other partners, particularly AFJ member organizations
  • Helps orient and train new team staff including, but not limited to, team interns
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and/or participating in professional organizations
  • Drafts scopes of work for potential Justice contracts for review by program leadership
  • Provides support for other Justice team projects and other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
Demonstrable track record of project management skills
  • Bachelor’s degree is highly preferred but not required
  • Excellent organizational skills, including attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks at the same time
  • Demonstrates creativity, initiative, and judgement to manage own workload and support the Justice team
  • Exceptional computer skills, particularly Microsoft Office 365 (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, SharePoint, etc.)
  • Willingness to learn/implement new software/tech platforms quickly; experience working with CRM databases preferred
  • Excellent judgement and discretion with ability to keep job-acquired information confidential
  • Nonprofit and/or public interest organization experience a plus
  • Passion for civil rights, social justice, and judicial advocacy
  • Commitment to AFJ / AFJ Action’s mission and goals
  • A team player with excellent interpersonal skills; brings a great attitude, patience, and a sense of humor to the workplace
  • Strong collaborator and able to adapt quickly to changing situations

Compensation
This is a union position covered under the terms of a collective bargaining agreement with the Washington-Baltimore News Guild, CWA Local 32035, which includes salary minimums based on job position category. This position is in Group 1 with a starting salary range of $50,000 to $55,000 depending on qualifications and experience.

Family Leave – We provide up to 16 weeks of parental leave and a range of paid and unpaid family leave programs that allow our employees to bond with and care for their children and other dependents.

Structure
This is a non-exempt position that has no direct reports.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
