International Ocean Import Operations Specialist
  • Job Type: Full-Time (On-site)
  • Location: Renton, WA
  • Salary Range: $60,000- $80,000 Annual Salary Range
  1. OBJECTIVE (POSITION SUMMARY)

The primary role of the International Ocean Import Operations Specialist position is delivering excellent customer service, supporting customer profitability, and overseeing movement of goods door to door for ocean import consignments.

This position is required to exercise consistent, independent thinking and decision making in order to meet customer requirements, deliver a high level of service, at profitable levels as guided by the Station manager. The position requires a well-rounded understanding of International Ocean Freight Forwarding, primarily imports.

  1. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES WILL BE AS FOLLOWS:

In this position, the International Ocean Import Operations Specialist is responsible for:

  • Prepare ocean import arrival notice documentation.
  • Coordinate the timely presentation of documentation for customs clearance to the customs broker.
  • Make payments to steamship line carriers and/or CFS warehouses for ocean freight due or CFS charges due.
  • Create load tenders and distribute them to the appropriate transportation providers, follow up to ensure consistent delivery performances that meet customer expectations.
  • Provide day to day shipment tracking, tracing, and monitor shipment movements. Update customers and management of shipments in jeopardy of not meeting scheduled delivery commitments.
  • Enter POD data and follow up with truckers for this information.
  • Communicate with overseas agents and offices for documentation on bookings.
  • Create requests for rates correspondence and follow up on those requests.
  • Invoice customers timely, accrue costs, and post shipments to accounting system.
  • Prepare & record rate quotations.
  • Keep appropriate Company peers and team members informed of customer activities via email.
  • Resolve payment discrepancies and prevent invoicing errors.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
  1. QUALIFICATIONS: KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIREMENTS
  • Basic Proficiency in Microsoft Office e.g. Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
  • Working knowledge of Transportation Management Software is required e.g. SAP, Cargowise.
  • Effective interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing. Proactive problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Highly organized with the ability to multi-task accurately and with attention to detail.
  • Able to work well under pressure, in fast paced environment and with limited supervision.
  • Team cooperation and respect is required.
  • Work Schedule
    1. Consistently report to work on time, prepared to perform required duties. In office position.
    2. Ensure work responsibilities are covered when absent.
    3. Full time schedule of minimum 8 hours per day with flexibility to complete all required job duties and responsibilities.
  • Physical Demands
    1. Regular physical demands: Walk; sit; use hands to handle or feel; use fingers for keyboarding; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear.
  • Mathematical Skills
    1. Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Education and Industry Knowledge
    1. High school diploma and or related trade certifications.
    2. Minimum 5 years’ experience in International Ocean Import Freight Forwarding.
    3. Additional background in Freight Forwarding is a plus, including import regulations and documentation requirements, ISF, AMS, CBP, domestic transportation modes and pricing methodology, knowledge of CTPAT and government regulations & requirements.
